Hounsou Eager For Constantine 2
Djimon Hounsou told SCI FI Wire that he's eager to reprise his role as Papa Midnite in a Constantine sequel, but said that at the moment no follow-up is in the works. "I would be very interested," Hounsou said in an interview while promoting his latest film, The Island. "It's a cool character, and I think that the character needs to be a little more defined and developed, and I'm looking forward to that. They haven't talked to me about it. There's no talk about it that I know of yet."
A character in the Hellblazer comic books on which Constantine was based, Papa Midnite is a mysterious crime lord and voodoo master who's as often Constantine's ally as he is his enemy. In the film, directed by Francis Lawrence, Papa Midnite was depicted mostly as an ally to Constantine (Keanu Reeves).
If there's a Constantine sequel, Hounsou said that he'd like to learn more about the character. "Just who he is and how he came about to be who he is in that world," Hounsou said. "How he is able to mingle within that world, and within both sides of that world, without being affected. I think there's so much character development [in the comics] that it would be exciting to see [it] take place [in a big-screen sequel]. I'd love to give some input to that. So it would be exciting."

Reeves Declines Constantine 2
Keanu Reeves told SCI FI Wire that if there's going to be a sequel to his supernatural movie Constantine, they'll have to raise hell without him.
"Not with me," Reeves said flatly when asked about a sequel to the movie about reluctant demon-fighter John Constantine during an interview at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Reeves said that he liked the character and thought it was a well-rounded part, but that the film version of the Hellblazer series from DC/Vertigo comics wasn't enough of a moneymaker to warrant a sequel. The movie made $75 million domestically and more than double that overseas, but cost Warner Brothers about $100 million to make.
Is there any hope for Constantine 2? "No," Reeves said. "We didn't quite make it."
Two of Reeves' Constantine co-stars are in Toronto during the festival: Shia LaBeouf, who played his sidekick Chas, and Tilda Swinton, who played the angel Gabriel. Swinton is again co-starring with Reeves in the upcoming independent film Thumbsucker, in which Reeves plays a spiritualistic orthodontist.
Meanwhile, Reeves said that he is excited about two other genre projects he has coming up. "I did a movie with Richard Linklater called A Scanner Darkly, which is a Philip K. Dick adaptation," Reeves said. "I did a film called [Il] Mare with Alejandro Agresti, which is a romance with Sandra Bullock."
Il Mare is a love story that transcends time. It is scheduled for a February 2006 release. A Scanner Darkly, which takes place in futuristic Orange County, Calif., is scheduled for release later next year.

LeBeouf Talks Constantine 2
Shia LaBeouf, who co-starred in the comic-inspired film Constantine, told SCI FI Wire he was surprised over reports that Warner Brothers is in talks with stars Keanu Reeves and Rachel Weisz for a follow-up, Constantine 2. Responding to reports that The Hollywood Reporter talked to Reeves, LaBeouf said, "Wow, I didn't think he would jump back on. Keanu went through a lot of s--t with that movie."
The dark, brooding film, based on the Vertigo comic series Hellblazer, grossed about $76 million, the BoxOfficeMojo.com Web site reported. The modest success left the door open for a sequel.
But is the report just a rumor? "I don't know," LaBeouf said with a laugh in an interview at a preview for his upcoming animated film, Surf's Up. "I've not heard anything, so maybe it's not [happening]."
