Discuss the first family of Superheroes, the movie(s), their foes & their friends here.

Nomytaker - January 19, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
Can't wait to see the Movie, The Rock Dude (can't remember his name), looked good in a magazine that I saw.

Purple Ranger 14 - January 20, 2005 05:39 AM (GMT)
Ben "The Thing" Grimm.

Nomytaker - January 20, 2005 06:02 PM (GMT)
^ That's the person, every time I write The Thing, I think of The Adams Family.

Purple Ranger 14 - January 21, 2005 05:11 AM (GMT)
People still call him Ben Grimm.

Ben Grimm forever! He's my favorite FFer. I like his blue eyes, never-give-up attitude, loyalty to his friends, sense of humor...

I think it's great that the actor playing him in the movie (Michael Chiklis) is also a fan. I can't wait to see the movie!

Purple Ranger 14 - January 23, 2005 08:24 AM (GMT)
Don't forget his girlfriend is blind and she's able to see his human self.

Ben used to have a girlfriend. He's still friends with Alicia, but he hasn't gotten back into a relationship with her.

Yeah, I know. I shouldn't get them mixed up, but I do.

What irks me is when people want to call the FF's powerhouse "Thing". That's when I start thinking of the Addams family.

Have any of you seen the Roger Corman movie?

Purple Ranger 14 - January 25, 2005 12:36 AM (GMT)
That the dude behind Black Scorpion???

The dude who is playing Mr. Fantastic is portraying another Mr. superhero in a future episode of Justice League Unlimited. He's voicing Mr. Miracle the Superhero/Escape Artist and he acquires the Flash's help to rescue somebody from an inescapable prison.

I have some questions for all of you. I've already asked them in polls, but I didn't allow people to type out responses. I do want to see replies this time around.

1.) Who is your favorite FFer?

My favorite FFer is Ben Grimm. When I watched the cartoon, I felt I could relate to him better than his teammates for some reason. Maybe it's because he still acts and talks like a human being, even though he no longer looks human. (The only features that didn't change are his eyes, and there's a saying that the eyes are "windows to the soul".) He's loyal to his friends, has a never-give-up attitude (which is useful in fights), has a sense of humor, loves Franklin, and is someone I wouldn't mind being friends with in real life. Some people consider him to be a monster, but I don't.

2.) Are you looking forward to this year's Fantastic Four movie?

I've been waiting years for this movie to be done! I don't know how long I've known about a possible movie project, but I've been a FF fan since the mid 90s (1995/1996). I've been reading the comicbook since 1998. There were always talks flying around about scripts, cost of making this kind of film, directors coming and going, writers coming and going, fans mentioning their "dream casts" (I didn't have one myself, though I did take a look at photos of people in other people's dream casts), release dates being changed all the time....After awhile, I thought there would never be a big-screen FF movie. I grew tired of seeing rumors.

Last year, a friend said the actual casting had been worked on. When I showed my surprise, he thought I had called him a liar. I did no such thing!

When I initally saw the final cast list of Michael Chiklis, Ioan Gruffold, Chris Evans, and Jessica Alba, I didn't know who these people were. I hadn't seen any of their previous work. (I've since then rented Cellular, which convinced me Chris is a good actor, and should be able to pull off his role as Johnny Storm.) I did however love the energy Chiklis put out in his interviews. I wanted a FF movie to be done. I didn't expect an FF fan to actually star in the film! I found it fantastic (pun intended) that Michael grew up with the FF as a kid, and could relate to the Thing. I'm confident he'll do a good job bringing Ben Grimm to life. (Isn't it ironic that he ended up feeling trapped in those costumes? I guess that helped him with the role even more, since he's playing a man who's trapped in a form he doesn't want to be in.)

My dad said he'd buy the movie once it comes out on DVD. He promised to see it with me, and I'll be holding him to it! A friend said she'd see it with me too.

Purple Ranger 14 - January 27, 2005 05:46 AM (GMT)
I'll give my answers on Saturday since I have to get to bed.

fan4 - January 27, 2005 06:56 PM (GMT)
So far, everyone who has voted in my FF movie poll does want to see it. I wish I knew the names of the voters....

"The Torch" is my favourite FFer.
The film, looks good VE wise.

Why do you like the Torch? What does "VE wise" mean?

Nomytaker - January 28, 2005 04:55 PM (GMT)
I like The Torch, because of the fact that, he can set himself light at will. And not become burnt.

VE should be CGI, I don't know how I came up with VE.

He's Spider-Man's best friend. He manipulates fire which means he can give Pyro a run for his money. And I decided that I should have powers similar to his in my stories.

I know Spidey and the Torch have a friendship between them, but I haven't read anything which says they're best friends. There have been moments though where Johnny considers Ben to be his best friend. In a Lee/Kirby story, Ben said the same about Johnny. When I think of best friends though, I tend to think of Reed and Ben.

I chose my fave. FFer based on personality. Seems you and the other guy made your choice based on powers.

Purple Ranger 14 - February 6, 2005 08:38 AM (GMT)
I'm also a bit of a hothead like Torch is.

Fox Pushes Four To 8th

Twentieth Century Fox has pushed back the release of Fantastic Four a week to July 8 to avoid a head-to-head clash with Paramount/DreamWorks' The War of the Worlds on the July 4 weekend, Variety reported. Steven Spielberg's movie version of the H.G. Wells classic SF novel, starring Tom Cruise, will still premiere on June 29, giving it a six-day opening run through Independence Day on the following Monday, the trade paper reported.
The new date pits Fantastic Four, based on the Marvel Comics series, against Sony's Bewitched and Universal's Skeleton Key. Universal is owned by NBC Universal, which also owns SCIFI.COM.

Have any of you seen the International FF trailer? SuperheroHype has it. It's better than the one attached to Elektra, IMO.

I have not, Tricia. Could you post the links for those of us who have different computers & viewing programs please???

Fantastic Four rules. I'm not too excited about Jessica Alba playing The Invisible Woman, but she's alright. I like Michael Chiklis as The Thing and Julian McMahon as Dr. Doom though. This should be a good movie.

She's blonde. She looks to be about the same age as Invisible Woman. And she's a great actress.

And Julian. Here are some recent Fantastic Four Articles:

Is Four's Doom Misunderstood?

Julian McMahon, who plays the villainous Dr. Doom in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie, said he views his character as both evil and misunderstood. "I see him as both," McMahon said in an interview at WonderCon in San Francisco last weekend. "Initially-and this is the way we start him off in the movie, and it was really taken from the original comics- ... he's a man who is pretty much reasonably egotistical. Very much set on getting what he wants out of life and will do whatever he has to do and can do to make sure that he gets that."
But when the character, the industrial tycoon Victor Von Doom, gets zapped with cosmic rays during a disastrous space mission, he begins to change. "When the circumstances happen to him that happen to him in the movie and everything kind of turns against him, I think it's almost a natural progression for him to go [off], if that makes sense," McMahon said. "He has villainous qualities, because he will trample you. ... Even just as a businessman, before he became this Dr. Doom thing, he would run over you if he had to. He didn't care. ... And then on top of that it's kind of, I call it the disintegration of a human being. And that's kind of what happens to him in the movie and also what happens to him in the comics."
At a WonderCon panel, Australian native McMahon likened Von Doom to a countryman, Rupert Murdoch, the billionaire managing director of News Corp.-which just happens to own 20th Century Fox, the studio that is distributing Fantastic Four. McMahon quickly realized his faux pas and backpedaled. Speaking after the panel, he said, "I shouldn't have [said that], and I take it back." But, he added, "you know there's only a certain few men on this planet that are visually those type of men that we know have that kind of power and money. And I think Rupert's one of them." Fantastic Four opens July 8.

McMahon's Return Is Charmed

Julian McMahon, who will reprise the role of Cole in an upcoming episode of The WB's Charmed, told SCI FI Wire that his reappearance bookends his involvement with the show. "I loved working on the show," McMahon (Fantastic Four) said in an interview at WonderCon in San Francisco last weekend. "And I love playing that character. And the show and the show runners and that character really kind of gave me a lot as far as an actor is concerned. And I feel like where I'm at now is really attributed to what they allowed me to do on Charmed. ... And so for me going [back] is a no-brainer."
McMahon returns as Cole Turner, the half-human/half-demon ex-husband of Phoebe Halliwell (Alyssa Milano). Though Cole died in an earlier episode, his spirit will meet Piper's (Holly Marie Combs) in the cosmic space between life and death, where he will help reunite her with Leo (Brian Krause), according to a report on TheCharmedOnes.com.
Since leaving Charmed, McMahon has gained fame as one of the stars of F/X's Nip/Tuck and will soon appear as the villainous Dr. Doom in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. But there is a certain symmetry to his guest appearance on the show where he first got noticed, he said. "It's their 150th episode," he said. "I was killed in the 100th, and I come back in the 150th. I'll go back for the 200th if they have one. And if I was asked. But, you know, it was just ... a great character to play. It was great fun going back and [filling] those shoes again. It really was." The 150th episode, "The Seven Year Witch," is slated to air in April. Charmed airs Sundays at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

Purple Ranger 14 - March 2, 2005 04:34 PM (GMT)
The British tabloid The Mirror reported a rumor that Fantastic Four actor Julian McMahon is one of two front-runners to play James Bond in the upcoming Casino Royale film, though McMahon is believed to have passed on the role because of his schedule shooting F/X's Nip/Tuck.
