Callum - July 16, 2008 07:58 PM (GMT)
In addition to some earlier posts.
Play the bagpipes or drums?
Want to play in a competing band?
Want to improve your standard?
Want to play in the highest graded most sucessful band (of recent time) in the region?
Want to honour your existing band committments (parades, gigs etc.)?
Want to join a fun team, who will make you feel right at home?
Want the chance of one-to-one tuition with players with Grade 1 and 2 experience?
Want to travel all over the country to compete at up to ten events a year including all major championships at very little cost?
Want to test your abilities?
If you answer yes to one or more of these questions then please get in touch or come down to one of our practices as we would be very please to hear from you. We practice twice a week from 7:00 til' 10:00 at the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service Training Headquarters in Manchester. We are a flexible organisation and can organise lifts to band practices twice a week from various locations around the region (Warrington, Luverpool, Chester, Crewe, North/South Manchester, Preston and many more).
Please give us a chance to show you how much fun it is to compete at the Major events and see how much you can improve your standards in a very short time frame. As a band our aim it to get to Grade 2 within the next three years, to do this we need new blood to strenghten our already excellent team, that could be YOU!!
Don't hesitate get in touch now.
Pipe Major Callum Mclaurin - callum.mclaurin@tiscali.co.uk
Lead Drummer Scott Nolan - srnolan@hotmail.co.uk
Like I said we WILL honour existing band committments and will not let bands fold because of our increasing numbers. If your band is not competing then you have nothing to lose.
WARNING - some people will veiw this as a method of poaching, I view it as active recruitment and development. If you are asked to join a competing band see it as a complement and not as a threat. Let me put it this way if you or your son/daughter was playing with Salford Rovers etc. and was approached by a football league side where you/he/she could improve your/their standard...........would you stop them because 'our family have always played for Salford........' would you ever!
Over and out, get in touch now don't delay as we will be training people for competing in the 2009 season ASAP!

WE at Preston  dont compete  and people would be made welcome there, bring your own mug (cup)
Ronnie - July 30, 2008 09:29 PM (GMT)
Hadn't thought of that as a selling point.
At GMFRS you can get the use of a mug (cup) - with accompanying tea or coffee (de-caf available) without needing to bring your own - all courtesy of the Fire Service. Don't even need to do your own washing up.
So there you go - join us!

We at Warrington get tea, coffee in mugs, and bisuits ,sometimes cake. The band sec does the washing up.
I hear that at the Liverpool Scots association band , even have bacon and toast on a Sunday morning.

Suzi - I realise you were at our band before (and you chose to go somewhere that made you take your own mug - I don't understand it)
I think we will need to petition the fire service for some cakes or something like that too - although being already overweight, perhaps Warrington would send me over the edge.

When Alec left I had no one to share the traveling cost plus how the other half is , I could not commit myself enough . I was going to lie up for a time but was asked to take someone to Preston and I stayed.
I wouldn`t mind coming down for some tuition but haven`t seen Nicki for ages ,he lives in the same town

Suzi
We have one drummer coming from Preston twice a week and potentially another two or three from that area, so if you want to life share, gain the tuition and compete, you only have to ask.
I will even but the cakes for all to enjoy!!
Also - sometime there are leftover meals from the fire service training, which can be enjoyed in an evening........we're gonna need bigger kilts!!

i was down at the liverpool jocks a few months ago and they DO have bacon butties and tea or coffee phil :D
Davo - August 1, 2008 09:34 AM (GMT)
it would take more than a bacon buttie to get me there on a sunday morning, best bet would be have band practice in the pub that way I'd stop another couple of hours and make practice

I only mentioned the mug (cup) to ensure you had a receptical for a drink  . I am a great believer in having one`s own kit, that way you should not be caught out .
