Title: NW Solo Piping 2008
Description: Whaur's abody gone.....?

Callum - February 6, 2008 07:32 PM (GMT)
Just had a look at the entries for the solo piping this year, not many people entered? Take away the GMCFS contingent and you have 3 people???

Whaur is abody??? Does anyone else intend entering? If yes, declare yourself, if not, why not? I am not yet entered either so no digs meant here just general query.

I may or may not enter on the day....between being in Oz, Xmas and being in Japan with work I have managed to play my pipes only 3 times since October and don't want to risk spitting on the front row as my lips go half way into a set!!!

It would be good to see representation from everyband in the region. Friendly competition, no big names in there and nothing to be scared of!!

Plus the bar will be open!!!

Craig m - February 7, 2008 02:57 AM (GMT)
what date are the solos mate? not that im entering, i think my lips would be worse than yours haha

wouldnt mind popin down for the bar thou and listening...

David Wilson - February 7, 2008 10:27 AM (GMT)
Gordon rang me last night to see if anyone at Hendersons was interested.

We are hoping that there will be possibly three players but I need to confim with them that they are still intending to compete, "work shifts etc". :dont know:

I should know by next week

Riperpiper - February 7, 2008 11:44 AM (GMT)
We did consider cancelling it for a while but the entry is beginning to look a lot better now so it looks like being a good day. Sheffield will be putting in five or six, there'll be two from the Wirral, and possibly one or two from Chorley. Andy Markland will be in it too.

Why everyone has left it so late this year is a mystery. We deliberately hold the draw before the event so that we know in advance whether it was going to be viable and to give us plenty of time to print up the programme.

The Novice Chanter events are not looking good.

Entry so far:

Three bands entered so far: possibly three more to come.
J/SA 2
J/M 2
ADM 0
6/8 March 10
2/4 March 7
H/J 9
MSR (B) 4
MSR (A) 5

I may be a bit slow. I realise there is an entry form, but who is it meant to be given to - it doesn't say.

Anyway - to whoever it concerns I'll enter Grade B MSR, H/J, 6/8 and 2/4 and bring my money on the day.

Ron, our new Branch Secretary's name and address is at the top of the form. :)

I'll add your name to the draw. Give your entry money to me on the day, or to Jim Dillon or Paul Brown if I don't make it.

Thanks - as I said I am a bit slow. Didn't quite connect the fact that his address was there with that being where the form was supposed to be sent.

Either that or it is simplt easier to add a post on a forum to enter, even if that isn't the official way of doing it.

Ronnie - February 10, 2008 11:57 PM (GMT)
From the current draw it looks like the majority of the pipers from GMCFS have entered and very few others (as far as I can see only 3 others who actually play with bands in the branch?).

I realise people have said that other bands will be providing some entries (eg hendersons; Sheffield) - it would be really good to see them on the draw soon!

David Wilson - February 11, 2008 10:37 AM (GMT)
I will find out at band practise tonight if we are able to get anyone to enter.

Regards
David

A serious problem has arisen today regarding the coming competition.

In view of its nature I have started a new thread in the protected N.W.England forum below which is only visible to Branch members.

If there is anyone who is involved in this competition and does not have access to this protected forum, email me (riperpiper@hotmail.com) to ask to be put into that group.

Redneck - February 12, 2008 09:18 PM (GMT)
Ooooops, nothing too serious I hope Chris. None of my business, but a hope it's sorted seeing as the entries seemed to be rising.

Good luck.

Iain.

Riperpiper - February 13, 2008 01:32 PM (GMT)
This morning the decision was taken to cancel the Solo Piping.

I have explained this in more detail in the Branch forum below. I'm posting here as well for any other people outside the Branch (like yourself, Iain!) who might have been following this thread.

The problem has been that the RSPBA only told us on Monday that no adjudicator was available. Apparently there is an adjudicators training day being held in Northern Ireland somewhere on the same day.

We may be able to reschedule it for a later date... watch this space.

Redneck - February 17, 2008 06:53 PM (GMT)
Sorry to hear that Chris. Surely to goodness there was someone free.......loada cr*p ya ask me.

Hopefully the participants will remain and give full support to the later date.

Tafscot - February 19, 2008 05:17 PM (GMT)
I would have suggested you do it Iain? but it would mean you staying away from the beer tent?, and that would never do?
