My family moved to Worthington, Minnesota in the summer of 1989 into a small 2 bedroom house. I was 5 years old, and would start the 1st grade in September. My parents had their own bedroom and my two sisters, my little brother and me shared the room across the hall (which was just a step away from my parents room).
I remember the first night there. We arrived pretty late, it was dark and there was no electricity. All we had for light were candles. I know that when you're young, you seem to have a crazy imagination. But that first night, sleeping upstairs with my siblings, I had the thought that something was wrong with the house.
I'm 22 now. The house still haunts me sometimes in my dreams. My recollection of events are not really chronological, but these events did happen:
SOMEONE/SOMETHING IS LURKING AROUND.....
When the family was downstairs watching TV, there would always be this creaking noise upstairs - obviously the sound of someone walking on the stairs really slowly. The house was old, so my parents told us it would do that. So we got past that issue real quick. But it was the area that lead upstairs, the entrance to the garage and the door to the bathroom that seemed to have a lot of activity. There was light that shined down at the top of the stairs my parents always left on for us, and it was always dark in that area and the light switch did not always work (we would have to flicker it a few times for it to actually turn on).
THE BLACK FIGURE
One night, I got out of the shower and was combing my hair in the mirror in the kitchen. Now, in the kitchen, there was this big mirror that reflected what was behind me: the sink, cupboards, the little corridor that lead upstairs, to the garage and bathroom. When combing my hair, my eye caught a dark figure standing there watching me and as soon as my eye caught that, it walked into the darkness. It was adult size but it was pitch black (I saw the out line of it). Not only did I see it that once, but I saw it a few times in the morning when it was still dark out and always when I was looking in that mirror.
MID MORNING ENCOUNTER
One time when I was sick, my siblings went to school and my mother was upstairs sleeping, I would go downstairs to watch TV with a blanket and pillow. Getting tired, I turn off the TV and took a nap. I woke to a clicking sound in the kitchen and opened my eyes but everything seemed blurry. I heard the television turn on and started changing channels. I got scared and didn't want to look around so I covered my head with the blanket and fell back asleep. I told my mom what happend and she said she wasn't downstairs at all.
THE TV
We had a SuperNintendo and hooked a TV upstairs so we can play with our friends and our parents can watch TV downstairs. One night, my brother and sister decided to turn in early and went to bed together. My dad, sister and I stayed up a little longer. The next thing I heard was my brother and sister running down the stairs screaming. We asked them what was wrong and they said the TV was talking, that there were voices coming from the TV. We all went up to investigate and of course there was nothing. The next day, only me and my sister were in the house and she came downstairs and said to me the TV was talking again. I went up with her and the TV was off and we sat infront of it and my sister said, "Hello? Is anyone there?" And there was a reply, "Hello." followed by a childish giggle. There were two voices, a little boy and a little girl. We could hear them talking to each other and they would talk to us as well. No one would believe us so we invited a friend over. It scared the hell out of her because this is only what you see in movies. At night we would hear them talk a little bit, they sounded really creepy...telling us they wanted to play. We told them to go away and my my dad threw out the TV.
THE EYES IN THE ATTIC
My cousins were over at the house one night and we told them the house was haunted. They didn't believe us and they wanted to see the attic. We never bothered with the attic before and just left it where it was. My cousin took a broom stick and pounded it, opening it up just a little bit. It was pitch black so we couldn't see nothing. We left it at that and didn't bother putting it back. I know this sounds a little crazy, but the next day there was a set of orange eyes with black pupils starring right into the room I slept in with my brother and sisters. It would blink, but not move. We didn't have a flashlight at the time and we didn't even want to see what the rest of it's body looked like. When we slept, we'd close the door on our parents and eventually, my father closed it. I know I will never forget what those eyes looked like. It was frightening.
LUCKY
Lucky was my friends dog. My friend stayed over one night and my dad, my little brother and my friends sister fell asleep while we played video games. It was around 1-2am. We heard Lucky barking and we called for him to come back to us. But that didn't work. I was scared my dad was going to wake up so we went to get the dog. He was barking at the door the lead to the garage. We picked him up and brought him back to the living room and told him to stay and we continued playing games. Again, Lucky returned to the door but this time he started to growl and bark louder. We went to Lucky and got him out of there. My friend and I looked at each other and we knew something was there but we couldn't see it, we could feel it though... We put a box at the entrance of the kitchen so he couldn't go back and left the lights on and went to bed.
BLACK EYE, THE RETURN OF THE BLACK FIGURE
One day, my mom woke up with a black eye and my parents don't fight. My mother explained to me how she got it (After we moved out of the house). She got it from my dad. One night, when everyone was asleep, my dad had a dream that this black figure was sitting on top of him and strangling him. He struggled in the dream and was struggling in his sleep and hit my mom in the eye. The "black figure" turned out not to be only my imagination, it was real this time. My mother also told me she had a dream one night that she woke up in the middle of the night and stood at the top of the stairs. At the bottom of the stairs was the black figure standing there. My mother asked who it was and it didn't reply but started to come up the stairs and she woke up.
THE DREAMS
After we moved out of the house in 1998, the weird and unexplained things eventually stopped. I was scared that it would follow, but I felt nothing strange or erie. There would be times and it still occurs today, that I would have dreams of being at the old house and feel the terror inside me rise as I stand in that house alone hearing all the strange things and just wanting to get out of there but I can't. My family still dreams about that house. There are more encounters but this is all I feel is necessary and to prove that the old house I used to live in was and might still be haunted. My mother rents it out and people ask if the house is haunted and they tell us strange happenings...
We heard stories that there was an old lady burried in the garage under the cement or that a witch lived there. I'm not sure till this day and I'm curious about the history of the house. Also...from the second floor in my old room, you can see the view of the cemetary in the distance. Quit disturbing.
So...Should I go and dig up some history on that house or leave it be? I feel like I need closure to this because I still think about it from time to time. The hauntings, the dreadful feelings. What should I do?
(didn't catch all my spelling errors...sorry)
Wild stories! Welcome to the board!
I think since you feel you need closure perhaps researching the house's history is a good idea. Hopefully others here on the board can give you more advice.
Thanks for the welcome. Does anyone ever use this site anymore?
Yes, there's a number of people on this board. I think right now is a just slow time.
I suppose...and I log on at the weirdest hours.
