Title: Detecting ghosts while househunting..
Description: ideas anyone?

So my friends are all now hitting the age where they're moving out of their apartments and into houses and it was brought up in a discussion - how exactly could you tell if the house you were looking to buy was haunted? Unless it's disclosed by the homeowner. I'm thinking there's not an exact way without getting overly involved. Any thoughts on this?
Funny how it is that there's a perception that houses recently built won't contain any activity because it hasn't been around long enough. Might have burst a few bubbles... oh well.
Anyway - do you guys have any thoughts on this? Any ways you can think of without having your real estate agent cast strange looks at you?

That's a really good question! I think it matters how much a person allows themselves to be sensitive to paranormal activity - but even that's not going to be guaranteed accurate since a house may be "at rest" during a viewing.
I guess just try to keep aware of cold spots or just areas that make you feel uneasy. Trying to get any more technical than that may make your real estate agent think you're a bit off-kilter.

Personaly I would rather buy one thats haunted but thats just me :D
There really is no way to tell just from walking through it.
Maybe bring a friend who is sensitive to these things?
Can also try looking up the history of the house seeing if anyone has died there.
That doesnt mean it will be haunted but wouldnt hurt to know.

haha - I don't think I'd want to buy one that is knowingly. Not unless I could be assured that it would be a friendly fluffy spirit. I can only be brave when there are other people around y'see. I'd be too afraid to go into the basement or something to do laundry - I'd be out of clean underwear in a matter of a couple of weeks..... something that I wanted falls down the stairs.... forget it.. it's all over..... lol Maybe I shouldn't be disclosing what a horrible wuss I am here? :) Honestly if I have to suck it up I handle myself gracefully....
Thanks for your insights guys. Kind of what I thought but you never know for sure ....

if you are afraid of buying a haunted house just ask your realitor if it is, granted he will probley look at you strange they have to disclose that information so if the previous owners have experinenced anything they must tell the realitor and if they lie you can try getting your money back in court there have been cases won in court because they didnt disclose this info to the new owner so in summary just ask them and if they lie sue em' lol.

Be selective about the realtor to begin with. One of my dearest friends just bought a house a year ago. But because there were special things she wanted in the house (fireplace facing the right direction, ect.) she went with a realtor who specializes in finding houses that fit the person. I think she found him through the pagan press. She said it was a great experience and no question she asked seemed "strange" to him.
Otherwise, pay attention to your instincts, they will never do you wrong.

Naw, not just you! Me too! When we were looking at the house we bought I asked the realtor (the one that was representing the house/previous owners) because she was a friend of the owners and had spent a lot of time there. I asked if it was haunted and she said no. I told her that was disappointing because I'd always wanted to live in a haunted house. She still said, no, she'd not heard anything like that.
Then after I starting seeing/smelling things, I asked the previous owners and they said yes, there is something there. They even mentioned things that I have witnessed but didn't ask them about.
Numerous people have come into my house and asked if it's haunted. They say they just get a feeling. Nothing easy to describe. I don't really get that feeling, and if I did I would just think it was wishful thinking. :)
But there IS something there, I'm pretty sure.

ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LIVE IN AN "ACTIVE" HOUSE....
I WOULD RUN LIKE HELL.

I believe in some states it is actualy illeagle for a realtor to not tell you if a house is haunted before you buy it.

In response to the person above me; yeah, but can you imagine a judge actually willing to hear a lawsuit over that?
And I lived in an active house for two years, and I loved every minute of it. Of course, we did have the occasional evil spirit, but exorcisms aren't that hard to do. Usually. In any case, I'd not want to live in an inactive house - do you have any idea how boring and quiet that would be?

We have "something" that I think followed us from our old apt. It's rather lazy, and doesn't really do anything to be bothered with. Just little things once in awhile and a couple of times I've heard it actually say "Hello".
Does anyone else think that if a spirit/ghost finds someone they "like" for lack of a better word, that they will follow them? I know I've heard that some of the less nice ones will attach themselves, but why not the nice ones, too?
I'd live in a haunted house in a second, as long as they were nice like the one we have now.

I live in a apartment building, since I am the caretaker I have access to alot of stuff. I have seen a couple people that have died here. I do think apartments have alot of potential to be haunted.

I've heard of stories where 'nice' spirits attatch themselves too.
At any rate - I would much rather live in an inactive house. I don't need to bring these things home with me. Furthermore from the standpoint of moving into a new place - if you know the place is active - you still don't know if it's residual or intelligent - and what kind of situation you're getting into you know?
I'd be quite happy to live in a place haunted by like.... a dog..... or something I knew would be kindred.
