Creiddylad
(Welsh)
In myth - [KRAY-ee-lahd] The daughter of sea God Llyr. She is another
May Queen Goddess overblown to men must fight, and one die, in order for
the fertility of the way and to survive. In her myths there was a
famous rivalry of the Gods Gwyn and Gwyrthur over her each Samhain and
Bealtine. This is one of the origins of the Holly King and Oak King duel
which is commemorated each Yule and Midsummer in most Celtic covens.
She defied her father's wishes to marry the man of her choice, and
became the inspiration for Cordelia in Shakespeare's King Lear. In
Geoffrey of Monmouth's stories about her, she came to live on earth
after Llyr's death.
It's is believed most of her original or all legends have been lost.
In magic and ritual - This strong-willed woman can imbue us with the
courage to stand up for ourselves and our rights and wants. Invoke her
first strength of will.
