The total budget for the production of this film is planned to be 40 million dollars, which is the largest amount of money ever used for a film adaptation of a videogame. "Devil May Cry" is a game about the hero Dante, a son of a demon and a human mother who goes out into the world to fight with hell's demons that come raiding the world of the mortals together with his sidekick, the mysterious lady, Trish. It has sold the cumulative total of approximately 4.27million copies worldwide, being especially favored in the North America. The film distribution company, Gaga Communications <http://www.gaga.co.jp/> had obtained the option rights from Capcom <http://www.capcom.co.jp/> for adapting this title into a film at Hollywood. According to Gaga, the director for the film, casts, and the distributor in the US will be decided upon later. They have also stated that they hope to make a film that makes good use of the hyper actions by Dante and the beautiful art and designs evident in the game version. Apart from "Devil May Cry", Capcom also owns the rights to games such as "Biohazard" and "Onimusha" of which the former has already been adapted into a film that made over 16.8 billion dollars worldwide. Gaga had already obtained the rights to adapt the game "Tekken" (to be produced in cooperation with Namco and Crystal Sky (US)) in February 2002, and the rights for "Onimusha" (to be produced in cooperation with Capcom and Metropolitan (France)). The film production of "Devil May Cry" is the third in line of Gaga's project to adapt Japanese videogames into film. When we had released the reservation of Dante statue at Animaxis this March (which its release has been postponed), it gathered great popularity with its high quality modeling depicting the deep and gorgeous atmosphere of "Devil May Cry". With the film production of the game, we will be witnessing the flight of yet another "dark hero" from the land of the rising sun to the rest of the world |
