Title: Work Work....
Description: Things you at work when you're bored.

skyjade - May 27, 2003 09:54 AM (GMT)
For those who spend the day in hell with fluorescent lighting or "the second home" (your office, depending on how you love or hate your job), share your daily blues on this forum! :P

meiko - May 27, 2003 10:04 AM (GMT)
Argh! ;_;

Oh well, I spend 80% of my waking time in the office. Most of the time it's all work work work.... being in front of my pc and making lotza avatars and cellphone logos.

Whenever we're not busy, I just sit here in my cubicle and either download stuff, surf the net, watch videos, or check email. Ahhh..! ;_;

Rogue - May 27, 2003 10:05 AM (GMT)
ah..I am still here waiting for a long distance client call. I DO hope that I will pass the interview. :unsure:

hideto matsumoto - May 27, 2003 02:05 PM (GMT)
most of the time...
i check mails...

nag-bibilang ng oras...
day dreaming...
cramming...

I wish i HAD work. -_-

skyjade - May 27, 2003 04:01 PM (GMT)
For those who are looking for work, well, the company that I'm working for is still hiring. It's a call center in Makati, name of the company is PeopleSupport Philippines, located at Philamlife Tower along Paseo de Roxas. They hiring new employees almost every week, up until June.

If you're interested, send me a PM. ;)

Maybe I'm just biased but this company is really nice. No uniform, you can dress up or down or you can just wear whatever you want as long as you're comfortable in it. They don't mind radical hair colors as that's a big plus for us cosplayers! :lol:

officer_fujita - May 27, 2003 05:36 PM (GMT)
<--- still undergoing training. In a month's time, I'll be handling 500-600 calls a day from people who want to reserve tickets in a theater I haven't even gone to. ;_;

Rogue - May 28, 2003 12:36 AM (GMT)
Hmm..so you're on a shifting schedule soniabea? Cos call centers need to be up 24/7 right? Yeah, I know Philamlife tower, it's a nice looking building. ^^

I work as an IT Consultant..well, another term for a programmer. I also work at Makati. Ah..right now, I am preparing for a new project..last night I had my client interview..next is the online exam and hopefully I will pass both. ^^;

I agree! Although you'd be able to earn money, you'd still miss a lot of good stuff (like me, I don't even know Meteor Garden is --; )... Well, everything depends on what kind of job you have. :D

just like when in college, you'd wish that you were back in high school.
life gets more complicated as you grow older.

My current shift is 1pm-10pm, but that will change in about a couple months from now. And yes, the call center business operates on a 24/7 basis, so that means flexible work schedules (if you're a good negotiator or just plain lucky :))

If you don't mind me asking Rogue, what programs do you know? I have a friend in the US who knows Linux/Unix and is on the lookout for system administrators with the same capabilities. He's based in New York. So in case you're interested, let me know. :D

hai hai HAI!

actually depends on the work or "CAReeR" that youd like to have. for starters call centers are okay. for me even if im in front of the computer taking calls it is kind of challenging to solve problems of customers. and here where son and i (and a couple of more people ~raise your hands if youre present :) ) work, problems can vary from the simple "im computer illiterate" to trying to negotiate between two unyieling airlines :D

fun part it you can surf the net for free (no downloads, no porn sites, thats understandable)

although you miss the usual 9-5 work where sat sun is free and you can gimmick at night. plus its difficult to get another job coming from a call center...next job would prolly be in another call center industry.

the most important is, i guess, is that you enjoy your work. money is a factor, i understand, but its also nice if it brings you self-fulfillment :)

but i wouldnt know if im self fulfilled as of this time....siguro pag naregularized aku B)

acewildgal - May 28, 2003 05:28 AM (GMT)
good luck on your interview rogue...tried waiting out for sykes...*sigh* antagal nila....ive waited for them for 3weeks....until some rival company hired me faster :lol:

is that accenture? good luck! we know youd be getting that call soon :P

Are you serious?! 500-600 calls a day?! The highest number of calls I've handled is even less than 50!

JM, I just asked the HR guy regarding your application and they said they've already called you (through you house phone number) and left messages for you to call back at least twice. If you change your mind working there, you can always join me, Toby, Tan, Jan, Tolome, and Herb here. :P

And I think there is a WAA member who was just hired around the same time as Jannie and Tolome. :)

Is is true though that you can't surf the net during work hours?

Igsh! :(

Oh well, in our case, we are allowed to surf or do whatever we want, as long as we can meet the deadline.

*sniff* you forgot me sonia!

ive tried to busy myself with other things aside from surfing the internet while im at work, ive tried bringing a book once on my graveyard shift...find myself veeeryverry sleeepy..... -__-

I am a web programmer. I'm into Java for 3 years now. I also know JavaServerPages (JSP), Html, javascript, Servlets..I wish I could learn Flash but I dont have time right now. I dont know much about Unix/Linux and is mostly clueless about networking stuff. lol.i guess I am not qualified. ^^ But if they need a Java programmer, I'm here. haha.

And no, I dont work for Accenture. Actually, they gave me an offer but it's not close to my asking price. At the same time, my company informed me about the possibility of working in the States for a few months. I chose to stay because it would be a great opportunity to work in the US..you know experience and stuff. I might try reapplying at Accenture after several months if I dont like it here anymore. ^^;;

Ah..shifting sched is something that I dont think I could take. I am a daytime person. --; My sister used to work in a call center. She said she couldnt take ignorant people yelling at her and she couldnt find satisfaction in her job. So she quit. She wanted to be a teacher.

acewildgal, thanks. Now I need more luck to pass the online exam i'm gonna take -_-;;

Yeah, dead serious. Calls don't get longer than a minute, that's why. Usual routine would be asking for the city and state they're in, the establishment their looking for, then routing them to that place's line. Also, most clients are calling from mobile phones so they have to keep calls short ^^

Nope didn't recieve any calls/fax/sms/whatever from them. During those weeks, I was almost camped besides our phone- so the HR people must be pulling your leg. <_<

We can't go online since the workstations there only has one freakin' program (the one we use to route calls). We can in the rec. room, though.

Argh... it feels so lonely there (kayo na lang lumipat!!!). Mits and I have different schedules. ;_;

At least they're showing re-runs of Meteor Garden on cable.

Ah... the things we do for dinero.

repeat after me...."PAK SHEET"

hehe. ako enjoy ako ngayon sa training pero sobrang daming kailangan imemorize. like you're going back to school and all. may tests pa. pero cool yung batchmates ko (except for this one guy na i will mention later) at imagine bonded na kami after 5 days? galeng no! ;)

sige, bago ko makalimutan itong si pak sheet. won't mention names pero we call him that is because he is like a fact sheet. knows everything. and rubs it in your face. yun ang ayaw ko. we are all here to learn pero sya because alam na nya, sya na sumasagot sa lahat ng questions at nawawalan na kami ng gana sumagot.wala ngang gusto tumabi sa kanya kung maiiwasan. kaya ako maaga. malas mo na lang kung katabi mo. sobra alam ito ni sonia at tob.

*goes dreamy-like* nahalikan ko sa cheek si cloud (billy zane look alike)

tama na ang pagpapantasya.memorize na ulits ng city codes, airplane codes at location ng us states!test na naman sa thursday! ;_;

OK lang magyabang kung may karapatan ka magyabang, kaya nga may kasabihan tayo na "if you got it, flaunt it" 'di ba?

ACK!!! na overbreak naman ako by 5 secs while reading this column! ;_;

buti hindi ako napansin ng supervisors... --;

kuro-panda - June 11, 2003 06:31 AM (GMT)
in my life, i have been fortunate enough (in my own point of view) to have met people that either like me or get along with me.

and yet it never ceases to amaze me how diverse we human beings are.let me explain further.

i know i have my own quirks. and as much as possible i don't let other people suffer my quirks. its not for the goal of wanting to be in the "in-group" or be popular. i guess i dislike confrontations so i rather give leeway sometimes. and yet sometimes i think, "this is me. i am fine with me so if others could not adjust to it, well then tough luck." NOTE: I THINK OF THIS AND ACTUALLY DO THIS SOMETIMES. this is not a matter of being rebellious but more of the lines that i appreciate myself and what i am. and if others can't see that, its their loss.what i don't get now is why people in my batch right now(at work) think that i am too bitchy. and the excuse that its because i have a period (you know women get emotional, either extreme giddy or extreme bad-angry,jealous,depressed or bitchy), and this period ended a week ago, is getting old and offensive.it is also my choice if i don't want to smile at everyone i meet. so why do i get to be under the category of being bitchy (and not bitchy-cool or gutsy girl.bitchy bad). i even got so far as two advices from the same guy in my class not to be a bitch.

is it bad to be you?
