Title: J-Pop!
Description: who's your fave artist?
KasumiWaterflower - May 27, 2003 05:49 AM (GMT)
Alam kong maraming mga J-Rock dito...pero ako maka-jpop!
haha.
Who's your favorite J-Pop singer/s?
My ultimate fave would have to be Do As Infinity.
I can't believe how the Japanese can be so freakin' good in music...tapos tayo puro jologZ ung mga sikat...eep. :angry:
ryanclive - May 27, 2003 06:00 AM (GMT)
I agree with your last line LOL :P
Mine is Do As Infinity as well, Chemistry, Hirai Ken, MOVE, Utada Hikaru;
A lil of Globe, W-inds, Janne Da Arc, SMAP, V6 and Pool Bit Boys.
What do you like most about JPOP songs?
For me, the catchy tunes probably.
raistlin - May 27, 2003 06:13 AM (GMT)
the problem with our music industry does not lie on the singer / composer... but on those who listen... who composes most of our society its not the upper or middle part but that of the lower part... and the music that appeals to them is what is popular... there have been bands/ groups /artists who have been able to appeal to a lot of people who we also like... but then after a while their popularity dies down ....
I remember a quote from the Eraserheads when asked about April boy Regino... it went like this:
"ayaw namin sa music niya sobrang baduy, pero P_T_ sobrang yaman at sobrang sikat naman niya."
if you could win the masses then u'd be popular.... just like in politics ... those who are popular are those who most of the time win....
KasumiWaterflower - May 27, 2003 06:15 AM (GMT)
DAI, and Hikki.
Hmmm..I really like the way they mix sounds...see Hikki? Ung Deep River ang ganda, poppy pero parang traditional dahil dun sa guitars..
Minsan may mga nakaka-asar na poppy/catchy sa j-pop eh..too much MoMuSu and you'll see what I mean!
--;

Yeah, it's true. Nobody really respects Filipino music anymore...It sucks.
Mga Pinoy na gusto ko siguro would have to be the indie-bands. [Meron bang term na ganun? --;] hehe. I watched this one concert at my school and I heard a band, Ciudad, and they sounded J-Pop to me.
acewildgal - May 27, 2003 06:28 AM (GMT)
is it also because we're trying to put western standards on our unique filipino music? *sounds patriotic*
i like genki happy jpop songs...a dose (DOSE lang ha) of momusu...like love machine is okay.
all out utada fan ako....sobrang benta yung whole deep river album...personally like "letters" because of the latino/tropical kind of beat...plus andun yung hikari.
local bands...parokya ni edgar. wierd sense of humor. :)
KasumiWaterflower - May 27, 2003 06:38 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah!
hideto matsumoto - May 27, 2003 06:42 AM (GMT)
currently listening to hikki's distance album...
ok rin sakin ung w-inds, kat-tun, 4 tops... and all that bishie-teeny-bopper-boys shown on nhk :lol:

Jessa Zaragoza sa First Love at April Boy/s yata ung sa Forever Love by X Japan. Forever Love nga ba un? I forgot. I heard the filipino version before the japanese version so I was like... :huh: bakit ganun?? I heard that song years ago and then I heard X Japan sing it. |
Yep! Ive heard that song already. Not to mention the old classic Filipino adaptation, or should I say, rip-off, of Tokunaga Hideaki's "Saigo No Iwake".
"Nais ko'y makapiling ka muni't... nais ko'y mayakap ka kahit sa sandali..."
BLECH! XD
KasumiWaterflower - May 27, 2003 06:51 AM (GMT)
Nawala ung Distance kong album ehhhh! <_<
sa nhk hindi ako makaintindi masyado!!! walang subtitle!! dapt gayahin nila arirang!
minamic - May 27, 2003 06:59 AM (GMT)
Utada Hikaru for Jpop. Laruku for Jrock.
But lately I've been into Cpop.... F4, Stephanie Sun... ^^;;;
raistlin - May 27, 2003 06:59 AM (GMT)
colors is the latest song of utada....the music of JPOP culture is a mix of everything...r&b, westernpop, techno , dance, hip hop etc...they make it vary...Utada's songs are a lot more western pop, mai kuraki's R&B, etc but they make it different by creating it with an identity of its own ... make it unique... i remember when they made a filipino version of first love and automatic... i almost puked... for one the song is nice etc... but the lyrics they used stinks....
there are a lot of promising artists there in our country... but so far from what i see most just tend to stick to the local band wagon of songs that are too cheesy etc... why not make an identity of their own instead...
KasumiWaterflower - May 27, 2003 07:10 AM (GMT)
Dito kasi sa Pilipinas, maghubad ka na, sikat na.
Like, GEEZ! :angry:
The Blue collaboration with the asian artists features Kyla, Patricia Javier, Vina Morales, and...I forgot. Anyway, Patricia Javier?! Hellowwww! She, like, sucks. She doesn't know how to sing yet she's popular because of her booby video.
Eep.
ryanclive - May 27, 2003 08:10 AM (GMT)
I agree with Shaider. Colors!
<-- having Hikki's Colors LSS
Going back to the Filipino music topic... Just like what acewildgal said, maybe its because of the high standards we developed unconsciously because of consistently listening to Japanese music and western music. But logically, SOME of the prominent Filipino artists are just there to make bucks, their songs dont even make the slightest sense of being a contemporary art form (seriously, I think this is how we should revere music). Anyway, thats just a thought.
<-- JPOP all the way. And im not even trying to disgrace our nationality by saying this. :)
meiko - May 27, 2003 08:15 AM (GMT)
any song by laruku is OOOOOKKKKK!!! :wub: :wub: :wub:
hikaru utada is also a fave of mine... simple and clean~ ;_;
shinta - May 27, 2003 08:28 AM (GMT)
I like Do As Infinity, Garnet Crow, BoA and Utada Hikaru.
Gospellers is a good group too. The best a capella songers I've ever heard!!! J-pop ba sila?
I like K-pop too, unfortunately di ko kilala yung mga artists. Daming bishie din.
raistlin - May 27, 2003 08:44 AM (GMT)
yep gospellers are jpop but i like rag fair better (acapella band din) most of the songs from gospellers are senti or mellow , while rag fair has up beat songs (disco sounding) and no instruments :)
l_i_g_a_y_a_h_a_r_u_k_a - May 28, 2003 03:44 PM (GMT)
Hmmm, who do I like?
OK, I have influences of old school (I used to go to HK a GREAT deal, and they had a Japanese station sa Cathay Pacific pa lang ... and that doesn't mention all the Japanese songs they alternated with the Cantonese songs, especially Canto-pop... :laugh:), so I highly doubt you'd know some of them...
Here, in no particular order, are my faves in JPop:
Puffy
Do As Infinity
Chocolate (they had this REALLY CATCHY song ... wait a minute, are they KPop or JPop? Help! :huh: )
Namie Amuro (the godmother of all idols in this generation, IMHO)
Globe
Every Little Thing (I have to thank Karicx for introducing me to their remixed album ... it's FABULOUS!!! :lol: More dance and chillout than pop actually.)
Pizzicato 5 (they also intro'd me to Japanese jazz)
Chage & Aska
SMAP (heeheehee :P)
Hikaru Utada
Hitomi
Ayumi Hamasaki
...There are actually a lot more ... but I can't read the bloody kanji so I don't know who they are. ;_;
As for the state of Filipino music ... maybe we should open a separate forum? :) Whatcha guys think?

Maganda rin pala Globe!
Keiko is a really really good singer!!
But I like Globe better in the Feel Like Dance years...
mas PoppY ung dating. Techno na kasi ngayon eh.
