I wasn't going to run, but I've decided to launch a late bid.
I am somewhat disturbed by both other Candidates' view that there necessarily has to be secrecy within Cabinet over things like foreign affairs, or that we, the citizens, should not have the right to know how each cabinet member voted on a specific issue.
I believe that the government should not be hiding stuff from the general population. Having been Prime Minister, I know that hte government can still function very well with free disclosure.
Evidently, in sensitive times, there may have to be a delay in releasing info to the public. A good example would be the investigation in to the Security breach involving the South Pacific.
However, ultimately, all information should be released to the public. Also, as electors, we should know where each cabinet member stands on an issue, and how they voted. I do not accept the view conveyed by one of my opponents that Cabinet members' voting behaviour should be kept secret from the people of the region.
As your MRA, I will attempt to work closely with the Minister of Justice to draft clear obligations on myself and cabinet to release information to the public, and keep the public well informed of what is going on within Cabinet.
For far too long our government (which I recognize was led primarily by myself) has not been doing a good enough job in informing its citizens.
Having been a citizen for the last little while, I now recognize the better public disclosure is needed, and will do what I can to give Canada the open and transparent government it deserves.
One of my opponents believes that your elected officials should be allowed to have secret agendas.
He believes that when a cabinet minister votes, that how he or she casts his vote should be shielded from public scrutiny.
I do not believe in secrets. I believe that our elected officials should be held accountable for how they vote. I believe that how a cabinet member votes on a particular issue should be part of the public record, so that the public can adequately judge their actions and positions.
Nothing personal to my opponents. I'm sure they have their own reasons (which I don't understand) for wanting a closed off, secretive form of government. They are entitled to their opinion, and my hats off to both of them for having the courage to run and contribute to the democratic process.
However, If you believe in secretive government, I encourage you to vote for the other guys.
If you want honest, open, accountable government, vote for Bweezy.
One of my opponents believes that since Cabinet makes decisions as a group, that individual votes of each cabinet member should not be publicly disclosed.
I disagree. We, the public, elect our officials INDIVIDUALLY, and not as a group. As such, each cabinent minister's actions should be individually accounted for and disclosed to the public.
The electors ought to know the positions of each member that it has individually elected. It is therefore only logical that individually voting behaviours be made public.
It is time to bring Canada's democracy to the next level, with accurate reports featuring the voting records of each Minsiter.
Do you know how each Minister has voted on the most recent issue? Heck, do you know if all your Ministers voted on the last issue? Shouldn't you have the right to know?
I say yes.
If you agree, then vote for Bweezy.
(OOC - on a different note, I've never ever seen a debate where both parties kept to their own threads like this. How orderly and polite... ;)
