Title: Greetings from the United Kingdom

Betelgeuse XII - May 7, 2007 10:18 PM (GMT)
Hello Canada :) I'm Betelgeuse XII, UN Delegate and co-founder of the United Kingdom.

My visit to Canada is a little overdue and I apologise for that. In addition to my other duties at the United Kingdom I am the Chairman of the United Kingdom Football Association, in which capacity I coordinate periodical competitions with teams from numerous NS regions. This is done partly for the fun of it and partly as a way to maintain and expand friendly relations with like-minded regions in NS.

As a general rule I try to ensure that we have relations with the home regions of each team entered, and since the Dukes of Omnivorous are currently competing in the second UKFA Cup, I am here to request an Embassy exchange between the United Kingdom and Canada. :)

Hi there Betelgeuse XII

Firstly, welcome to Canada. I hope you enjoy your visit here. Please make yourself comfortable in our VIP suite until Diemetricus (our MoFA) can set you up with more permanant. You'll find plenty of beer and doughnuts over there --->, just let us know if you would like something more substantial.

While we're talking, could I just check that you are here representing United Kingdom, as opposed to The United Kingdom?

Since your forum appears to be closed to guests, would you mind telling us a little bit about United Kingdom, such as its system of government, allies and history?

Finally, you are cordially invited to join our local residents at any point for informal entertainment Canadian-Style. The best place to find them is usually at the Water Cooler.

Welcome to Canada Betelgeuse XII :cananim: ! Your Embassy request has been noted and I will present a report to Cabinet as soon as possible. This may take a few days. Until then, help yourself to some of the Beer and Doughnuts Al has graciously left out for you, and feel free to flick on the NHL playoffs on one of the big screens.

Cheers
Diemetricus

I had completely forgotten about that until yesterday

If I remembered my password I'd write up a team report...

Indeed, I represent the original United Kingdom (this one.) The subsequent recent founding of a region with a near-identical name was greeted with a degree of irritation on our part. I am sure you guys would feel the same way if I were to found a region called 'Le Canada'. Anyway, ranting aside ...

I have switched guest viewing back on on our forum. That was done as a temporary measure and I forgot to turn it off  (Forum link). I will try to honour your request however with a summary I posted a month or two ago in another Embassy. I have been meaning to write up a potted history for this purpose at any rate, so I guess we can view this as the latest draft. B)

The United Kingdom has existed as a region probably almost as long as NationStates itself. It was refounded by the current Government at 0934 UTC, 10 November 2005, in response to the demise of the previous founder and a subsequent invasion, which thankfully lasted only a couple of days.

The refounding effort was carried out before the influence rule change, which made the process infinitely more complicated and difficult. The later stages were particularly nerve-wracking as we received numerous strange telegrams from 'interested' parties and a message from the moderators prohibiting us from ejecting any more nations. However by this stage there were only friendly nations remaining and we were able to sit on the region for a few days before refounding the region by surprise. Betelgeuse XII was the controller of Act of Union 1707 as he refounded the region seconds after the empty United Kingdom was deleted, with Joolsdom also controlling a friendly puppet at the morning update.

The current Government is nearly identical to the one that was put in place following the region's liberation in July of 2005, which means that the United Kingdom has had a very stable Government for over a year and a half now. The basic structure is as follows:

Founders: Betelgeuse XII, Postboxes (Postboxes also runs the forums)
UN Delegate: Betelgeuse XII

Security Council: Betelgeuse XII, Costanzia, Green 123, Holdaway, Joolsdom, KikMYarm, Peace-and-Democracy, Postboxes

(note: some councillors' nations have been deleted due to inactivity- what a lazy bunch ;))

That pretty much takes care of everything. Only other things to note are that the United Kingdom's regional army, the Rapid Response Force (RRF) currently holds the record for the longest delegacy in Warzone Australia: http://www.nationstates.net/page=display_r...rzone_australia

The RRF is commanded by Joolsdom and Betelgeuse XII and is defender-oriented.

Any questions?  :)

Finally, Omnivorous: you have a PM regarding your password. I assume you mean the password to your account on our forums? The 'inbox' for the UKFA Press Office is HERE. It makes interesting reading for anybody else who may be curious about the UKFA. :)

Thank you very much ;)

Now to get my prose skills ready and turn some very bas results in a positive light, I think I might have already been eliminated :)
