Sir Hilary was admitted to hospital after he suffered a fall at his home last week :(

Reagrding the book, biographies of politicians... we know what they've done, we've had to pay for them to play golf on the other side of the world.

I have to say, I'm not a big fan. It seems to me that electing her would simply be another vote for dynastic leadership in the US. I'm not there so I'm prepared to bow to someone else's greater knowledge but if she's the Democratic option, I don't think the US will gain much by changing parties. It would just be a change in power-brokers. When it takes such massive amounts of money to get elected, it will always be the people with the money who decide, not the voters.

The thing that really sticks in my craw with her (as an I'm-not-ashamed-to-say-I'm-a-Feminist Feminist) is all the slick PR and image consulting. Her saccharine online running announcement, I'm In, turned my stomach. It put me in mind of Condaleeza Rice who was a hard-core #### and looked like one. But now she wears pink and speaks in a carefully modulated "feminine" way while appearing on cooking shows. Personally, I think a female leader would be great, but women who ape some stereotype of what a woman should be (even if it matches what some women are) are not female leaders. They are an insult to women everywhere.

Obama strikes me as another slick publicist, too. It doesn't leave much choice for the beleagured American voters, unfortunately.

Are there any credible 3rd-party candidates this time round? I've heard nothing.

There are never any credible third-party candidates...

I think this story sheds an interesting light on her attitude in general, and her green credentials in particular.

we basically have a one party system, except when it comes to environmental issues and civil rights. then the choices are far right who highjacked the republicans and moderate pseudo-democrats.

bleh.

personally, i'm a fan of hillary, but politically i think she sucks.

Do your reckon this guy has a chance?

Don't think so, but you never know. The biggest problem is that he's got to get his name out there--there's a long time before the election but if you're not a Dem/Rep, that's a lot harder to do. The only one who's been able to do that in recent history was Ross Perot (and he ended up sinking his own ship anyway)

The first time I voted, I had the major party choice between a faltering Jimmy Carter and that Reagan feller. I had to vote for John Anderson so that he could make 10 percent and get federal matching funds for his campaign.

*wishes she had voted for carter anyway, but glad he went on to better and more important things...*
