Rest in peace. One of the authors that had a deep influence on the way that I think.
A freaking head injury from a fall.
RIP
so it goes...
i'm sure you know which book i'm referring too
I couldn't believe it in the paper today, they had an obit for KV that was about 3 paragraphs long and one for some obscure violinist that was about half a page.
One of my colleagues did a pretty good piece on him. His own words about Love and Common Decency.
Slapstick was "the closest I will come to writing an autobiography."
"I cannot distinguish between the love I have for people and the love I have for dogs. When a child... I used to spend a lot of time rolling around on rugs with uncritically affectionate dogs we had...and I still do."
"Love is where you find it. I think it is foolish to go looking for it and I think it can often be poisonous. I wish that people who were conventionally supposed to love each other, would say to each other when they fight, "Please, a little less love and a little more common decency."
"Human beings need all the relatives they can get, as possible donors and receivers of not necessarily of love, but of common decency."
I was really more moved by the passing of Hunter S. Thompson, but that may be due to the fact that Vonnegut's works have been with me on a deeper level.
