With a budget like that you can almost smell an election coming. Wonder if any Conservatives will run next time, I'd like to see some debt relief and spending control and these guys sure aren't giving it!

I applaud the funding to foreign skilled workers and Canadian universities, also the green initiatives.

Diemetricus: the pretty generous tax-relief targeted at business was a pretty solid Conservative move. It was just set in the context of being a minority government with the other parties being further left than you. A strong Conservative budget would have sounded a death knell for the current administration, and I think that pragmatism wisely won over dogmatism in this case.

Behind some of the usual smokescreens, and omissions I think it's a very interesting budget. It's actually the first genuine sign I've received that Harper is actually interested in trying to finish the term of office at normal length. Which completely contradicts his memos circulating within his party. Makes me wonder what is he really up to.

I think the conservatives will not call an election. right now any party who forces an election will likely lose 4 to 5 % of their support. therefore unless the conservatives go above 45% support they won't look at an election. I think harper wants to be one of the first prime ministers who managed to govern on a minority government. That would show true skill, and every day Harper is in Power he gains peoples trust more. It's in his best interest to run the government as long as he can. Dion is busy shooting himself in the foot, so why not continue?
