Hmm. . .

Did they study the different ways of smoking it (bong vs. rolling?) Could it be all the stuff that the tobacco companies put into cigarettes?

Very interesting.

In any event, there are some wonderful cook books out there which will keep your lungs nice and pink.

In case it was missed...

I cannot find it at the moment - it might be one of our many lost posts - but I had posted a link about tests suggesting that smoking marijuana also helps prevent against cancer caused by cigarette smoking, so that could be another consideration...

How would that work?

I'm very curious about this story. Can I use this story in a blog once I find out some more?

I'm going to do a lot more looking around about this and you should, too. There are 2 sides - at least - to every story.

Interesting find. And it's not being hosted by some random pro-drug forum so I'm relatively assured that it can be trusted.

Hey, if it's fact, it's fact!

I conducted an experiment last night, and so far I feel fine. I'll keep y'all updated, though.

Though I did find a pad of paper with the question "What does Mike Patton look like?" and a playlist full of Bon Jovi, so there were some negative effects.

Question: what do they do to the marijuana plant to make it smokable?

Nothing, really. They have just selected for plants that produce a high quantity of THC. It's like how farmed strawberry plants produce strawberries that are huge compared to their wild counterparts. There are also growing methods that increase resin production.

Marijuana is just the resiny tips of the plant (the resin is much higher in THC). There are other forms of canibus that are prepared (hash, oil, etc.), but they are usually just ways to purify the THC content.

Ah. So you just cut the tips off and roll them up or shove them in a bong?

Oh, I see what you are saying, I thought you were asking about chemical treatments. If you want to roll up pot, you usually need to shred or cut it up. I usually just use my fingers. But if you're using a pipe or bong then you can just put the entire little tip in there.

Ok, thanks!

Apparently, according to the Wikipedia article on cigarettes, the fillers they add are actually part of the tobacco plant itself, so any differences between cigarettes and marijuana would be based on the qualities of the plants themselves.

I found this quote here while doing some more research:

"Lynn Zimmer, co-author of Marijuana Myths, Marijuana Facts, says that there is very little good research on marijuana's impact on the lungs relative to cigarettes. We do know that deep inhalation of marijuana and holding one's breath (not something done by cigarette smokers) would seem to cause damage to the respiratory system — though there have been no reported cases of lung cancer in marijuana-only smokers."
