Title: New Forum
Description: Copy to: Prime Ministers Forum

Carbanousa - January 28, 2007 08:15 PM (GMT)
Given the problems with z1 (the forum's server), Cabinet has recently been creating a new forum.

It doesn't have to go ahead, but it was felt that the necessary leg work should be done so that the changeover could be as swift as possible.

The new forum can be found here. It isn't accepting registrations at the present time as some threads need to be copied over first so that groups such as Cabinet, Immigration, Foreign Affairs and Defence still have access to the most recent discussions.

Should the region decide a new forum is in order this forum can either be turn 'off' (no access) or turned into a read only archive where certain items would be available for historical purposes.

There are a few questions that need answering firstly:

Keep post counts - yes or no?
What to do with this forum - archive or turn off?

The construction of the new forum is much more secure with regards to masking and viewing. The forum also has a dedicated mail account for COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection) registration forms to be sent to for approval by the on site Administration team. All that remains to be done is create a dedicated Photo Bucket account to host the images.

Both the Email address and password are available in a secure Administrator only forum as will the image hosting site for buttons and markers.

As a point of note, all the Administrator accounts (including the Root Administrator account) will be deleted when the forum goes online (meaning the only Administrators will be user-created. There will be no default Administrator account.

So to the region: Is a new forum a good idea?

I like the new forum idea.

I don't care one way or another about post counts.

I think this whole board should be turned off - especially since the last few months posts are gone.

You've juxtaposed two different links for the new Forum.

http://z8.invisionfree.com/NationStates_Canada/
http://s8.invisionfree.com/NationStates_Canada/

One is on the z8 the other on the s8.

I promise to give a reply on this though as soon I get back in a couple of hours or so.

I say lets move.
Post counts don't matter to me (I plan on making more anyway) :P
As far as this board it depends on how much important stuff can be moved. There is some history that is good for future reference. Past Laws and stuff are great to review and if it is turned off all that would be lost for viewing.

They both link correctly and I know they both work *shrug*

I've made my opinion previously known to Cabinet that as far as I'm concerned, transferring post counts is too time-consuming and fiddly and there are a lot of people here and a lot of post counts...

Post counts don't matter to me too. If the cabinet decides to move, I’m with you.

Yay!! :yay: :yay:

New forum, yes most definitely. I'll take cabinet's word on this that the server crash has rendered several admin features erratic at best.

We should keep in mind that we are merely shifting from one forum to another. The region's laws and traditions remain.

I would support leaving this forum online but in Read Only.

During a transition period our most important threads (CRDF-Command, CRDF-Coordination, Cabinet, Ministries, Diplomacy, etc) can be transferred to the new forum, as needed.

We have to go about planning this very meticulously so as to not disrupt our foreign relations, or domestic activity.

In the aftermath of 420_Celebrant's resignation, I would like to volunteer for the position of MoRA.

Ok, ok! I see why it would be important to keep this forum as it is the beginning of Canada's forum history.

*edited to add missing quotes and C6's name*

I think we should leave the old one up as Read Only and have a link to click on to go to the new one.

Post counts do not matter to me.

Jack_Tarr - January 28, 2007 11:53 PM (GMT)
A new forum works for me if it will help the Government do its job.

I don't care about post counts. There is no way i was gonna get on top of Shay in the listing anyway.

I suggest keeping this as read only. It never fails that I desperately want something 2 weeks after I threw it out.

Note that these are aliases to the same IP address (209.85.48.7). Given that links on sn servers go to zn servers, I suspect invisionfree are planning to retire the sn addresses some point.

Beaver-Country-Canada - January 29, 2007 01:37 PM (GMT)
I'm all for the move, whatever Cabinet decides. This forum is toasted, and we need a fresh start anyhow.

That was done so that people would not have to use the zn if they had been using sn for three or so years. Possibly to switch in the end, they just redirect at the moment.

(It appears there is a concensus supporting a forum move and nobody seems to care about the post counts :P)

Sorry for posting twice, internet's a bit dodgy recently :P

Yet another reason for moving, there are two unread PMs in my Inbox and apparently I have no new PMs...
