Title: My recent activity in Portugal

Here are a few of my thoughts on what is going on, and what I've been up to recently.

The recent months in NS have seen dramatic drops in Regional populations but thankfully Canada has more or less managed to stay above it all. I hope we can get a complete cabinet up and running as soon as possible.

Recently a good E-friend of mine, "White Stars", was elected as delegate of Portugal. I've had a puppet nation there for some time, "New Eunomia", and he's asked me to help out re-energize the region. Their region has been suffering from heavy inactivity and generalized lethargy for quite some time, despite still having a healthy population of over 100 nations.

They play a style of NS that is heavily based in RP, where every nation simulates their own nation within the region. Europe is really the only large region that does this exclusively without interacting with other regions. Personally I find this paradigm of playing NS to be extremely tedious.

My idea so far has been to promote the idea of Portugal establishing itself in the NS RP inter-regional mainstream, instead of it's introverted RP style of playing. This of course means radically changing their forum, possibly even creating a new one, and changing their language from Portuguese to English among other dilemmas.

It's been an interesting experience for me so far and if I'm able to sell them the idea, it's going to be quite a challenge. Rallying interest in creating a constitution from scratch, and hopefully later, building domestic and foreign policy from scratch.

This sounds interesting, being of no background in RolePlay.

If Portugal does become world-active in any way, how would the possible language change effect the region as a whole?

Judging by how widely ignored my ideas have been so far, I may not need to come up with an answer to that question.

Most of them are okay with English, but they'd probably prefer Portuguese. A new forum would be necessary of course.

White Stars aka WS has given me a fair shot at trying to introduce a new playing style to the region, a style that he appears to be interested in trying, but there just isn't anyone around to agree or disagree. The forum has about 5 active posters.

Two of them have asked a few questions, but none of them have expressed an opinion on it either way.

White Stars could mandate the change if he so desired. He is delegate and the region imposes no legal limitation on his power. Doesn't look like it's going down that path though. It's not that their opposed to it. It just seems that they find the task of creating a constitution, establishing the separation and legitimation of powers, so daunting that they wouldn't even know where to begin.

The thought of running for their delegacy has crossed my mind. My views are already well known, but I could publicly announce my candidacy for the delegacy on a campaign for the realigning of the region with NationStates' mainstream.

Sounds interesting, but I doubt a language change would ever work.

It would take a mammoth and slooowwww turnaround even for a region of 100 barely active nations. I'm still willing to give it a shot but the region has to be on the same page. There is no point in trying to purposefully alienate nations who might struggle with English.
