Description: Prohibition of UN Military

Carbanousa - January 1, 2007 06:05 PM (GMT)
There is currently a new resolution at vote in the United Nations: 'Prohibition of UN Military'. The attached poll will be open until Wednesday January 3rd when I will cast my vote based on the result of this poll. Please remember that you can only vote once no matter how many offsite accounts or nations in Canada you may have,
A resolution to improve world security by boosting police and military budgets.

Category: International Security
Strength: Mild
Proposed by: Omigodtheykilledkenny

Description: Determined to maintain the neutrality of the United Nations over international affairs, and to protect the territorial sovereignty and integrity of member states,

This Assembly hereby resolves:

1. Member states shall neither raise nor contribute funds or forces toward the creation of any army or police force under the banner or command of the NationStates United Nations;

2. Member states shall neither request nor expect intervention in any armed conflict by any UN-created military or police force.

Please note that this resolution was started by moderator request, to reduce the number of resolutions requesting a UN army.

Thus making this a IC rule, as well as the OOC ruling already in place. The OOC ruling is located in the second link.

However, to save you time, here's the nutshell of the ruling, found under Game Mechanics> Army, Police, SWAT, etc

QUOTE
The UN doesn't get an army. Nor does it get to form the World Police. This is pretty clear: don't do it.

what does this mean? if we vote no, it still means nothing.

I initially thought that these sort of resolutions were deleted by default since they are explicitly forbidden. Whatever.

They are...it's a attempt to reduce the number of them. They get about dozen-ish a week.

(Personally, it's not like people that write them read the rules that ban them anyways...so this is kinda redundant legistlation, but it was requested by the NS modz)

The resolution "Prohibition of UN Military" was defeated 7,085 votes to 3,824.

I cast my vote FOR this resolution based on the result of this poll.

Thank you to everyone who voted.
