Title: Informal poll on smilies

420_Celebrants - December 16, 2006 09:41 PM (GMT)
Call them what you will - emoticons, smilies, annoying ... either way, we have 'em here.

And we have a lot of them. Which is making posting a little trickier these days due to the amount of scrolling we need to do to get past them.

I am wishing to clean up the smilie table and make some of them unclickable. They will still be useable ... they just won't appear on the panel to your left.

Instead, there will be an index made that will be housed in the FAQ list and in the Canada At A Glance post, which I just realized will have to be totally rebuilt due to the Invisionfree gaffe (arg).

Anyways ... I would like some regional imput on this item.

1) Are there any emoticons/smilies that you feel are not needed and should be deleted altogether to make room for something better?

2) Are there any icons that you would like to see added? (please post them the emoticon, if you have found on, in the reply)

3) Which icons do you think could become non-clickable and just be used by manually typing in the shortcode?

Thank you for your imput.

Personally, I have two theories.

The first being that the simple smilies be changed to unclickable. This would include: :) :(    B) :D ;) :P :o

My other theory is to unclickify the least used smilies, such as :ghost:

I'd like to see -_- and ^_^ deleted due to similarities to other ones.

I wouldn't need any of these for regular posting. Thanks for editing them. I agree scrolling past so many makes posting a lot more annoying. I do like them....I wouldn't use them much. I would be more than willing to go looking for them to copy and paste when needed.

If you want to use an unclickable smilie and can't remember the code, all you have to do is click on "Show All" at the bottom of the smilie table, so making all but the most popular ones unclickable should hardly be an inconvenience at all.

You can also make the table 4 (or more) smilies wide, which does wonders for the length and doesn't impact the posting area too much.

Mmmm, many other InvisionFree forums have the 'show all' to show the rest of them and they are clickable in that area. Can we do that?

I don't use any of those regularly

That's what I was saying. Not so clearly or succinctly, though.

Call me selfish, but I want my ghostie back all to myself, again! :ghost:

I'm not big on using these, myself:

I think when smilies are hidden, that clicking on the the 'show all' button makes all the non-clickable smilies clickable in one instance (the instance being that the 'show all' button has enabled all emoticons to be seen and become 'clickable' as a 'one off'.

Did that make any sense?

Jack_Tarr - December 17, 2006 07:34 PM (GMT)
Yes, I like the idea of the "show all" button if it can be done.

Who cares?
Can we try it? :D

I'll play around with it now.

Smilies might be wonky for the next hour or so ... depends on how many troubles I run into.

How's the current roster look now?

Ess - December 18, 2006 02:27 AM (GMT)
I like this, and we can add even more without any outward effect! ^_^ :D

420_Celebrants - December 18, 2006 02:43 AM (GMT)
Oh ... we can add as many as we like really.

I've had a few instances of wanting to gather and upload some a few times, but then never did.

I might add a few in here and there in the future, if I still have admin powers at that time, that is.
