Title: It's Snowing!
420_Celebrants - December 13, 2006 07:52 PM (GMT)
It's that time of year again ... snow is falling!
Just to make sure snow is falling everywhere and not just here, if you happen to not be able to see the snow or are getting falling red X's .... please let Carbanousa know.

I like how it starts near the top of the screen and then falls down. That's cute ;)

Love the snow.
Carbanousa - December 16, 2006 05:58 PM (GMT)
If anyone is having problems with the snow please let me know and I'll try and rectify the problem (reduce the number of flakes or find a smaller image).
The most likely cause of a slow computer will be if you are using an on-demand or active anti-virus scanner. As the images are hosted by a third party hoster (photobucket), the are pulled from there when the page is loaded and also pulled from there when they are redrawn (fall). Bascially, this means that any anti-virus software is having to scan the image each time it is loaded and reloaded for redraw.

that makes so much sense, because I have The Slowest Computer in the known universe, (A Pentium II with a massive 128 MBs of RAM! ) and the snow hasn't seemed to have affected its performance.

So, does everyone have something faster than my IBM 5150? :(
Carbanousa - December 18, 2006 10:41 PM (GMT)
What's that in GHz? Currently running a 2.4GHz CPU, but my core-duo is winging it's way to me (all built around an FSB of 800MHz (quad-core is optimised for 1033 FSB for comparison) :)).

If it makes you feel any better TV, I only have a 19 gig hard drive and 18 gigs are used up already :(

Um, does the IBM 5150 even have a hard drive?
:P

Nah. 6.5 currently. It's old, it sounds like an aeroplane taking off, but it's as stable as a rock.

Six gigs even.
542 mHz Pentium III.
192 MB of RAM.
Now someone tell me why I'm not using my FAST box for this...

As we're all nerds trying to prove a point which is actually not impressive but just shows how bad we are at change of environment and equipment?

What I see is a bunch of blokes trying to prove their equipment is the oldest and slowest.
I think Freud would have a field day.
Jack_Tarr - December 20, 2006 03:51 PM (GMT)
Mine is deffinitely the oldest but it still works suprisingly well. :devang:
