Title: New repeal at vote
Description: Repeal "World Heritage List"

Carbanousa - December 1, 2006 02:24 AM (GMT)
There is currently a new repeal motion at vote in te United Nations: 'Repeal "World Heritage List"'. The attached poll will be open until Monday December 4th when I will cast my vote based on the result of this poll. Please remember that you can only vote once not matter how many offsite accounts or nations in Canada you may have.
A proposal to repeal a previously passed resolution

Category: Repeal
Resolution: #37
Proposed by: Kivistan UN Bordello

Description: UN Resolution #37: World Heritage List (Category: Environmental; Industry Affected: Woodchipping) shall be struck out and rendered null and void.

Argument: The United Nations

COMMENDING the effort of UNR#37 (The World Heritage List) to protect the global environment;

DISMAYED that UNR#37 fails to stipulate how to classify locations as being of environmental significance;

DISTRAUGHT that there is no system by which the World Heritage List is to be maintained;

CONCERNED that UNR#37 does not specify what protective measures are to be taken, and by whom;

LAMENTS that UNR#37, despite its mention environmentally damaging activities, is narrowly targetted at only the woodchipping industry;

SEEKING an opportunity to pass more effective legislation in replacement;

HEREBY REPEALS UNR#37 The World Heritage List.

The current vote stands at 3,124 for to 786 against.

Here is the resolution to be repealed:
QUOTE (The United Nations resolution 37)
World Heritage List
A resolution to increase the quality of the world's environment, at the expense of industry.

Category: Environmental
Industry Affected: Woodchipping
Proposed by: Van dieman land

Description: Recognising that all nations share a common global environment;

Recognising that sites of pristine environmental significance should be protected for all people; and

Recognising that a lack of environmental protection protocols currently exists:

It is proposed that a World Heritage List be established. All UN nations may voluntarily list sites of environmental significance both internally and globally. Listed sites would be protected from logging, mining and other environmentally-damaging activities.

Votes For: 9,402
Votes Against: 7,623

Implemented: Sat Nov 15 2003

Very.

TinyVillages - December 1, 2006 03:37 PM (GMT)
Agreed. Maybe someone made a New Years resolution to repeal a certain number of laws and just left it for the last minute.

(This is Mav, obviously....)

Actually, you have a number of groups dedicated to removing bad legistlation from the books (http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Reveal_%26_Repeal).

Early in the game, we didn't have a solid set of rules in place, so now we gotta repeal the old one that don't work as well as they should. Remember the "DVD region removal" (resolution #5)?

Anyways,

I can make the case that this resolution should be removed.

1) it overlaps with resolution 15

QUOTE
Protect Historical Sites

Description:
We cannot let historical sites go to waste, and new buildings built in their place. Tourism would lose all value and deprive all countries of a significant source of income. We must preserve our cultures to keep this world a fascinating place to travel in.

2) this resolution (Number 37) does not detail what should be put onto the WHL (only that it needs to be environomental significance), thus, you can put entire nations onto the WHL (and destroy your enemy economically, if you RP this way).

3) there is no mechanism of removing items from WHL. UN nations can also add nations that are not part of the UN to the WHL, without recourse of the UN nation doing the adding. Non-UN nations cannot add said UN nation in retailiation.

4) No defintiion of what other environmentally-damaging activities are. You can designate the growing of drugs as an environmentally damaging activity (if you don't believe in drug use) (sorry 420 :P)

See this (unoffical) WHL list on nswiki: http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/World_Heritage_List

A Proposed replacement (for 37) can be found here though: http://forums.jolt.co.uk/showthread.php?t=506386

I have to admit, all these repeals are getting annoying. People can't think of any cool resolutions, so they decide to get rid of someone else's hard work. Disgusting. :no:

while I understand the sentament (I remember when there was like 8 repeals in a tight bunch (out of 11)), using that logic, i guess we shouldn't have repealed Resolution Number 3

After all, it was Otnemem's hard work (it's the first one) and it meant well, and to prevent annoying everyone by leaving bad and or redundant legistlation on the UN books.
