Crisis In Liberalia after Vote Fraud
Bahía Esmerelda, LiberaliaLiberalia, famous for its liberal and open government and form of democracy, has been rocked to its very core this week, following severe abuse of the electoral system. One of the founding "Christmas Revolutionaries," Loslakia, was found to have committed electoral fraud under the Liberalian Electoral Code, having used his admin powers to access the accounts of inactive nations and vote for himself. He was also known to have created multiple accounts, all voting for himself, as well as somehow persuading large numbers of non-NS players to vote, for some reason best known to themselves. When confronted with this damning evidence, Loslakia, Liberalia's Deputy Prime Minister, Recruitment Minister and former Minister of War, reacted furiously and desecrated the beloved Liberalia forum to gain some form of pointless revenge. A number of threads were deleted, with the rest of the forum reordered, with masks changed so that many were no longer visible to members. As well as this, buttons and logos were deleted, and inboxs tampered with.
Liberalia's regional authorities reacted rapidly, declaring a State of Emergency, and demanding Loslakia's removal from the region. Having damaged the forums, Loslakia chose to delete his account there to cover his tracks and erase all reference to his actions in the Admin Logs. Shortly after his new actions were discovered, available members held an MSN Conference to decide what to do, and immediately banned Loslakia's IP address from the Liberalia forum.
The Guardians, who are responsible for trying those who have violated the Judicial Code of Liberalia, have met together to discuss his punishment in their highly secretive forum. It is unknown what punishment they have decided on, but many Liberalians believe that Loslakia should never be accepted back in the region. Most spoke of "betrayal" and "Horror" at his actions. As one of Liberalia's first residents, and the second-oldest member of the forum, it was not expected for him to strike it in such a way.
But where do we stand now? Many Liberalians ask this question. Recruitment is at an all-time low, although the population remains very high and active. There are still fears that the region runs the risk of stagnation, and recently experienced a week-long dry patch, in which activity collapsed. However, Liberalia has recently been more active than ever, but rates will not be helped by the departure of Loslakia, its most active member.
And the election situation remains a mess. Yesterday, it was clear to all that chaos reigned briefly in the region. Unsure whether to act decisively, and risk breaching the Judicial Code, or whether to wait for a collective vote, the members on hand struggled to repair the forum, as international interest in what has happened grew. It was for a brief moment that members considered changing forums. Elections, which were scheduled to end, are now no longer under discussion. Nobody is quite sure when elections will be held, and the government has not yet made a decision. A vot underway, aiming to give outgoing Prime Minister Carops emergency powers for two weeks, means that they may be put on hold for some time. It is now also possible that we shall see an election for the post of Permanent Guardian of Liberalia, a post which Loslakia lost, as well as his seat on the Guardian Council, when he left the region. Of course, there are also elections pending for two temporary guardians, which will also need to be scheduled. All in all, things are currently still quite messy and the region is still reeling from the blows dealt to it by Loslakia's behaviour.
