Title: Canada@NSwiki

canada6 - February 3, 2006 04:52 PM (GMT)
I've been recently appointed as "Person to maintain the NSCanada Wiki Page."
So here goes nothing.

I've taken a good look around and there is plenty of room for expansion.
I've officially completed a first test using my own nation.

I've fiddled a bit with Canada's page but nothing significant yet. It's +/- as it was before.

My general idea is to place a neat description on Canada's page covering if possible several different topics. Similar to a normal wikipedia page on a country, except that it would be displaying NS regional information.

I think my idea is to basically find a midway point between this RL example: The principality of Andorra., and this NS example: England.

I'd like to gradually shift historic information including lists of past ministers and regional history and other topics on to other pages. Similar to what is done in wikipedia. A RL example of this would be this list of Quebec Premiers.
I think we could have one of these lists for every ministry and on Canada's home page we'd keep a list of current government officials and a link to another page with a list of past parliaments, etc, similar to this: List of Canadian Parliaments.
We could eventually add on more stuff about Sports Fantasy Leagues our Constitution, amendments, past elections, descriptions of certain highly active sections of our forum such as the Standing by the Water Cooler, a list of the political parties in the region, and also add on any other major events after they have transpired.

I'll need both positive and negative feedback, and any ideas from all you guys and gals. So let me here it!

With regards to the Canada NSWiki page, how would people feel about the inclusion of the NSWiki Address in the World Foactbook Entry on the NationStates Region page?

I like the approach. Makes things more modular and easier to maintain.

Technically you kinda have one. Just click on your name there and edit it to your hearts content.

I noticed someone did KD's.

You really don't know the board if you don't know KD. Well she is one of the most important Canadians here, based on volume alone...

:P

I like the approach. Makes things more modular and easier to maintain.

Theoretically it should be easier to maintain that way although the main reason I'm doing this is to enhance reading pleasure and perhaps usability.

It will require a bit extra care while I'm separating topics. The pages will also have to be within two or three links/clicks tops from the Canadian home page. I can't go overboard.

Thinking out loud now, I'm not sure that modularity will make for easier maintenance since we wouldn't exactly have hundreds of thousands of lines on the homepage without separating topics to begin with. The future maintenance would require the editor to understand where and how things are located and he will have to edit in several places after an election for example. Rather than just loading the home page and "ctrl-f" whatever he's looking for. bah... should be no big deal. Modularity is inevitable.

My first draft is up with a bit of history on it.

Durass Wiki

Some things still need some work and I lost my population for some reason. Will have to investigate further.

I've tweaked a bit with Canada's home page.
http://ns.goobergunch.net/wiki/index.php/Canada

I rearranged a few things and removed the long list of past ministers. Before you start panicking I've saved it all up on word files. In due time I should have a neat history article in the works.

And there will of course be plenty to add on the home page.

Looks good C6 :).

The Prime Minister of Canada6 looks awfully like that razzle-dazzle lawyer in the movie Chicago.

I've rearranged the Politics section and included a neat little table.

There is still plenty more to do.

That's a good idea! Looks really nice so far.

You've done a great job. Thanks for your efforts. :hail:

I'm gonna have to do something about all that history. It's good stuff and very well written but there is a lot of pre-2004 history and then it suddenly stops. If there was a way to condense that and reduce its size to say 25% of what it is now I could then add a bit of Canada's more recent history.
Then in the "History of Canada" article I'd just let it hang and leave nothing out.
From what I understand the history that was written up on the wiki page is different from what is on the official history thread on this forum. That means what is on wiki page is unique. I haven't seen it elsewhere. I think I'll leave the history chapter the way it is for now. I'll take this up with you guys and gals before doing anything drastic there.
