Title: Going to the used cd store tonight
Description: what do I need?

Judith Gap - January 2, 2006 04:27 PM (GMT)
Here is what is on my list to look at: The number at front is 1-5 scale of "sounds good to me." The next column part is the artist, and the part in quotes is a song or album why. Of course, I'll only buy 3-4 and they'll fail to have most, but it's an ambitious list.

5 “Empire Records”
3 Acceptance
? Air Tight Experiment "Daze"
4 Asyln "Gotta Get Over You
? Azure Ray
2 Sabrina Barnett
? Beezus “Rebel Girl”
4 James Blunt
2 BOUNCING SOULS – “The good, the bad, the argyle”
5 Bowling for Soup - "Songs from Movies"

I wish I would have heard of "Lee Press-on and the Nails" - that's classy.

BTW - David Usher was one of my first interviews when I was working for Chart. Really nice guy ... down to earth and really pleasant to talk to.

These guys I have some of their music:
4 James Blunt
4 Death Cab for Cutie
5 Garbage
3 Hives
5 Michael Penn “Walter Reed”
5 Sting "Mercury Falling"
4 Le Tigre "Hot Topic"
4 Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs “Maps"

These guys I've heard of:
5 Bowling for Soup - "Songs from Movies"
5 Kelly Clarkson
5 The Killers
4 Lillix

That's 12...

Edit:
Forgot that I downloaded a Lillix track for my 9 year old daughter. So I have heard one of their songs - once. Of the above bands, I think that Garbage is the best band by a mile.

Let's see, I know of:

-Bowling for Soup
I only know one of their songs, "1985"

-Kelly Clarkson
The video for "Since You've Been Gone" is great, especially that look she gives the camera at the end--it's all angry but it looks really hot.

-Dandy Warhols
I don't know anything by them but I've heard the name...

-The Donnas
I know them from radio spots, I recall they talk about their music. I don't remember what the ads were for.

-Garbage
I can't identify anything by them but I'm sure I've heard something...

-The Killers
Sounds vaguely familiar. Don't know why.

-Letters to Cleo
I've heard the name. Can't even identify where.

-Sting
Of course.

-Yeah, Yeah, Yeahs
I think only because of hearing about them here.

So, nine that I've heard of, really only three that I could identify properly.

So JG, what did you buy?

hudson bay - January 3, 2006 11:33 PM (GMT)
After thinking about it a bit - of the bands you have listed that I like - I think you might like Spoon. Here's a song to download and see if you agree: "Lines In The Suit" (from Girls Can Tell)

Enjoy...

Predictably, I found 6. I bought the Donnas (they do guest spots on Vh1's 90s too), Letters to Cleo, Garbage (Bleed Like Me, I have the rest), and Len (which is silly). I saw Nikka Costa at full price (no) and Fefe Dobson (but I think I'll be okay with just "Everything").

420_Celebrants - January 4, 2006 12:23 AM (GMT)
Close. They both have about the same effect on my ears though.
