Title: Hmmm, very interesting....

Checkers McDog - December 17, 2005 08:49 PM (GMT)
Now that Carb's PM, and Liarg has taken over as MoD, I noticed something kinda interesting....there are no longer any RL Canadians in Cabinet! :D (Well at least any that currently live in Canada).

Carb = England, C6 = Portugal, Liarg = U.S., Parrrrtay = U.S., JG = U.S., Red = U.S.

We've been conquered! :P

Parrrrtay - December 18, 2005 12:06 AM (GMT)
Yes, very interesting indeed...

hudson bay - December 18, 2005 02:26 AM (GMT)
Wow that is weird...

BabyPanda - December 18, 2005 06:41 AM (GMT)
well...hmm...iCan understand the UK and US, but iDidn't realize that the portugese had any colonies in the area claimed by canada! :P ^_^

edit: yes, this is mav...

Actually, in my mind, I'm Canadian.

Several of my RL Canadian sailing friends have granted me honorary Canadian status due to my proximity and my behavior so I feel right at home here. :D

Bamada - December 18, 2005 09:25 PM (GMT)
Well I like canadian accents :P

kana da - December 18, 2005 09:37 PM (GMT)
Canadians have accents?

Jack_Tarr - December 18, 2005 10:13 PM (GMT)
eh?

Defectiveness - December 18, 2005 10:50 PM (GMT)
I didn't think so... I've had an Australian tell me I have hardly any accent at all...

Bamada - December 18, 2005 10:56 PM (GMT)
aboot those canadian accents...

I have *never* heard someone say "aboot."

kana da - December 19, 2005 01:55 AM (GMT)
Me neither.

Although, I don't say "eh."

canada6 - December 19, 2005 02:13 AM (GMT)
I hadn't noticed this at all.

They say home is where the heart is. Despite the fact that I reside in Portugal (and enjoy doing so), I was born in Canada. I am Canadian in mind and in heart.

About accents, I think Canadian English is impossible to distinguish from most American English. On the other hand, I've heard of a Scottish football (aka soccer) coach that had to toss the voice recognition computer on his brand new car, because it could not understand his heavy Scotish accent. :P

Judith Gap - December 19, 2005 03:34 AM (GMT)
Part of my studies have involved both linguistics and acting. There are various Canadian accents that are somewhat distinct (to me), but to others they are subtle and hard to hear.

420_Celebrants - December 19, 2005 03:46 AM (GMT)
Despite being a Canadian all my life, I can actually hear the subtle differences between "out" and "owwt" as well as "about" and "a-bow-t."

But no ... never ever an "aboot"

Redundancies - December 19, 2005 04:03 PM (GMT)
Some time back Ess conferred on me the title of "Honourary Canuck" so I suppose I'm Canadian in spirit too.

My best Canadian friend says it "aboowt"--I think saying it in a way other than "about" is an Eastern thing but I'm not sure.

Bamada - December 19, 2005 09:24 PM (GMT)
I can't use voice recognition on phones because of my accent...

If you want to here a thick canadian accent go to rural Newfoundland, I swear i'm still trying to figure out what some of the Newfoundland harvesters at ASL were talking about.

THANK YOU!!

I've always wondered if the voice recognition software in my Nintendo Game Cube microphone for Mario Party 7 would understand an accent or not. I didn't think VR technology had become that smart yet.

Bamada - December 19, 2005 09:45 PM (GMT)
It doesnt. I actually called one service once and it says:

Please state who you would like to reach after the beep. If you are from the southern United States or from somewhere other than the United States please press three.

and I was like... wimper...

420_Celebrants - December 19, 2005 10:27 PM (GMT)
OMG ... that is just great. Thank you for the laugh ... and believe me ... it wasn't at your expense.
