Title: ANNOUNCEMENT: Stepping Down
Checkers McDog - December 12, 2005 05:13 PM (GMT)
I don't even know where to begin....but as the title of this thread suggests, I will be stepping down as Delegate of Canada.
I have been delegate since March of last year when Bweezy stepped down, and I feel we're long overdue for some new blood. In the past year and 8 months we've gotten a lot done, and I take pride in the fact that I helped to make Canada into the most active user-created region in NationStates.
Personally, I just do not have the time to devote to the position any longer. My participation in Cabinet is dropping by the day. Many months ago I had said that if I felt that my leadership was slipping, I will step down, and I'm going to keep that promise to the region.
Our regional government has come a long way since I first became delegate. I feel that no matter what changes there are in who is in Cabinet, it will remain strong through the standard that has been created; we now have the laws, rules, and mechanisms in place to always keep our Cabinet functioning well.
I will be leaving the region on the night of December 16th to wipe my endorsements clean. On the 17th you will have a new Delegate and Prime Minister. (And as per our new laws, there will be a vote of confidence for our new PM).
Please take note of who will be delegate when I leave. There are several candidates in the running, which endorsement totals not too far apart. Please consider the next few days as a sort of "delegate election". Endorse those who you want to be delegate, and remove them from those you do not want ending up as delegate. I will be removing all my endorsements of others, except for one, to show my support for who I feel should be the next delegate of Canada. In any case though, the decision is up to the nations of this region...you have until the 16th to decide :)
Canada is known throughout NS as being a region of great political stability, and I hope that the next delegate of this region can help maintain that.
Before I get a wave of PMs and posts about me reconsidering, please note that I've been thinking about this for a long time, and I will not change my mind about stepping down (unless for serious security concerns). Also please keep in mind, that though I am stepping down as Delegate, I am not retiring from regional politics, and I will definitely not be leaving the region or forum.
I've enjoyed being Delegate of this great region, and I wish my successor the best of luck.
420_Celebrants - December 12, 2005 05:19 PM (GMT)
I was given a heads up that there would be drastic news coming today and this is exactly what I figured it was.
I am disheartened to see you leave, but I completely understand your reasonings behind it. I think it says a lot about your character and personality.
Thank you for the literally AMAZING job you have done as our Prime Ministeress. You are easily one of the reasons that this region is as non-crappy as it is.
I could go on for paragraphs about how the board/region will never be the same, but lets face it ... with all the stepping stones you've helped put in place, this region will ALWAYS be non-crappy.
Thanks again ... what you've done is appriciated and what you will do in the future is wished well.
In regards to this, all of my endorsements will be deleted except for those that I support as a possible new leader. All endorsements will be replaced when the new leader is chosen.
Chex - randomly - Feist is amazing. Thanks. Unrandomly - you'll be greatly missed.
To all those in the running - best of luck - you have some pretty big shoes to fill.
Parrrrtay - December 12, 2005 05:35 PM (GMT)
I don't know how to say it any better than 420 just did, so I will just say 'DITTO' :Canada:
I am very pleased to know that you will still be a part of the region.
Daemon - December 12, 2005 05:58 PM (GMT)
Well Chex, you know my feeling on this one. In summary, it will suck like hell not to have a Delegate like yourself around, but your life has to come before NS.
Here's to hoping that you will return to NS Canadian politics one day.
Judith Gap - December 12, 2005 06:04 PM (GMT)
You also know how I feel. I expect you to return soon. I've been here since last October and I've never known a Canada without you as the Prime Ministress.

Checkers, you will be so missed as delegate! You did a fantastic job for all of us! Thanks for all your hard work! :)
Durass - December 12, 2005 07:04 PM (GMT)
You've done a fantastic job and I'm glad you'll be staying in the region.
Thanks, Chex

I to equate Chex with my early days in the region. I remember back in the day (2 years ago I guess) there was some little RP about active members getting together to meet in a bar only to find out that Chex was underage at the time
I'm glad I got to work with you Chex, best of luck. Glad you are sticking around the forum.
I really like the idea of droping all endorsements except one to make it clear who you are voting for, then endorsing others afterwards. I'll have to do that soon.

From one former Prime Minister to a soon-to-be former Prime Ministress, I'd like to congratulate you on a job extremely well done. Canada has never been more vibrant or diverse. The level of activity here on the boards and in the region is impressive to say the very least. Hats off to you.
Phil Jackson - December 12, 2005 09:11 PM (GMT)
I have to say that we always did'nt see eye to eye on everything but you were a great leader of our region and you will be very missed. I joined the Canadian region back in June so it will be very diffrent without you being PM. Should go down as one of the best PM's in Canadian region history.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SEVICE
canada6 - December 12, 2005 09:27 PM (GMT)
It is with great sorrow that I came to know of Checkers' decision. However we must all feel consoled in the fact that you will not be leaving Canada.
To finish off my statement I would like to make a bold and open suggestion.
I propose renaming a sub-forum or section of this region, to honour Checkers McDog's 441 (and counting) days as Prime Ministress of Canada.
Honouring 441 days of democratic maturation, peace and political stability. The most non-crappy region in all of NationStates.

I've actually been delegate for way longer than 441 days :P
441 days ago there was a glitch in NS, and endorsments were messed around, and Carb was Delegate for a day. It started counting from 1, the next day. I've been delegate since the end of March 2004.
Thanks for all the kind words everyone :)
EDIT: Since March 29, 2004.

Wow. That's all I can say. It's definitely the end of an era.
Phil Jackson - December 12, 2005 09:59 PM (GMT)
I want to let the people of Canada know that I plan to run for Prime Minister/Delagate. Canada has a great opportunity to influence the world in a positive way. Were an example of a Progressive country so with that we need to move beyond war and with that as PM/DEL. I would go to the UN and introduce a Bill that will call for demilitarization of the world so we all can be safe from primative aggression. If countries do not comply with that bill if it passes than senction will be asked to be set in place for that country. I would also go to the UN and introduce a second bill legalizing Pot, because it is sensless that people got to jail or pay fines for smoking a natrual plant. Here at home I would push to make gay-Marriage legal because they deserve the same rights as everbody. And put it in the Charter that anybody has the right to marry who ever they please.
I will Have more later including my offical announcement.

Chex, I applaud all your hard work. I for one will miss you running the show as it were. I'm sure you realize that your stepping down will have no affect on the religion I started in your honor when I first moved to Canada.

Sonofagun Chex, I've only known a Canada with you at the wheel. Good luck girl; I didn't read the whole thread yet (I'll get there :P) but if you're not planning on coming back, you better visit!
Otherwise I'll be very upset -_-

Chex, I am very sorry to hear that you are stepping down as pm / delegate but I fully understand your reasoning.
Thank you so very much for your support that you have showed towards me as pm / delegate. Thank you for making me feel welcomed and thank you for a job well done.
I wish you luck in anything that you decide to pursue.

I just wanted to commend Checkers on the tremendous job she did as PM and Delegate of Canada. This region has been tremendously fortunate to have such an energetic and capable leader and for such a long period of time.
I recall an exchange of PMs I had with Chex prior to her taking over from Bweezy what must be nearly 2 years ago. I offered a little encouragement and asked her how she felt stepping into the big shoes left behind by her predeccessor. She said she was nervous but excited and looking forward to the challenge.
I was confident she would do well, but I don't think either of us anticipated what a long and successful run she'd have. It's interesting how things turn out. Now she's the one leaving behind the enormous shoes to fill.
Thanks for everything, Chex.
saskatoon saskatchewan - December 13, 2005 05:12 PM (GMT)
Well, while I am not surprised by your decsion Chex, I still have to admit, I am a little taken aback. It probably has alot to do with the fact only you and Bweezy have been PM since I've become active in the region. As a side note, I would be curious to see who the longest serving PMs are in nationstates history.
But boy things have come a long way since those early eays in March of 2004. I remember running against Chex in for the Minster of Regional Affairs position. As I seem to recall at the time, when I wrote some of my original posts, I referred to Chex as being a man boy, how silly was I. And, as I seem to recall, I also got crushed easily by Chex in that election. At the time I did not see it, but it was the start of a long career as a(scratch that, make that the) leading figure in this region's political and social direction. Frankly, I am just fortunate enough to witness the career of you there Chex.
The legacy Chex has provided to this region will be incredibly hard to overcome, no one can ever truly fill the shoes that Chex has left behind. You know, for a time, I did not think it was going to possible when I saw Chex to elevated to the big chair to fill the shoes that her predecessor, Bweezy left behind. I could not have been more wrong. Not only did Chex wear those figurative shoes, she stretched them to the point that required new shoes be created.
For the years of leadership and service to this great region that we have here, I must say one thing: Thank you. Thank you for dedicating your time and effort into trying and make this region the best it can possibly be. And good luck on whatever future endeavours you make take up both here in the nationstates world, or real life, for I am confident that no matter what you do, you will be sucessful.

My limited understanding of electricity and conductors is that the electric current or power, is smoke. If the smoke creeps out of the keyboard its very unlikely that the keyboard will ever function properly again.

Chex,
On behalf of the many member-nations of the region The South Pacific, I'd like to say thank you for being one cool-ass PM and a mighty fine ambassador to our region.
You are not quick to judge nor terribly bent on suffering fools and we'll miss you in your government role.
