The Portugeuese Ambassador sent me this message an hour ago:

Good Sir.

I come to you in a plea.

Portugal - from a long time now, this region has suffered from anarchy and disorder by so-called "democrats". That only led to two takeovers by another nation which was only interested in his personal power, not in the development of the region.

So, what I ask you is that you send the might of your region to assist those who still want a true leader - with an Iron Fist yes, but also a person capable of listening other's opinions and have a sharp mind for the welfare of the region.

I wish you to endorse The Portuguese Empire of Lighter Earth, so that he may perform this daunting task. He has been on the hiding since the last takeover, preparing this.

Now he wants your help. When he has the delegate control of the region, I’m sure we can repay the favour in any way you see fit (alliances, etc.), as long it doesn't arm Portugal.

Will you do it, please?

In essence, they want our help to install someone who will rule Portugal with an iron fist.

My gut reaction is to respond by offering our help to mediate the dispute, but that we will not meddle in Portugal's internal affairs. I'll await full discussion before making any decisions on the matter.

This was my response to Portugal:

It is the policy of Canada to not interfere with the internal workings of sovereign regions. Recently, a similar plea was made by the region of Alberta. We did not take sides, but rather acted as a mediator, and helped install a democratic regime that both sides in the power struggle could work with.

Having said that, I have referred your plea to our Cabinet for further discussion. Feel free to visit our off-site boards to follow the discussion or contribute more information.

I'll inform you of our decision once it has been finalized by cabinet.

I think acting as a mediator and providing a neutral ground to work things out is the main thing we have to offer. We can also assist with helping to install democratic processes which can hopefully make it harder for this to happen again.

And of course we have the same old issue - No founder.

There do seem to be a few invader type nations in the region. The ones that have placed endorsements have endorsed both the delegate and the Empire of Lighter Earth.
