Feel free to add any suggestions for new Un proposals

I've been thinking....what about a ban on all Nuclear weapons and therefore a ban on Uranium mining???
bweezy - February 24, 2004 06:26 AM (GMT)
The two don't flow. Uranium mining can be used for peaceful purposes (nuclear power).

Ok....how about just a ban on Nuclear weapons?
bweezy - February 24, 2004 03:16 PM (GMT)
You can try, but if you scan the proposals, the "ban all nukes" proposals are plentiful - they rarely get anywhere. If you do try that one, then I'd suggest that you take it nice and slow, circulate it for commentary, and build it up into something special, something different than the run-of-the-mill resolutions on that topic.
The key to a resolution on banning or limiting Nuclear Weapons would be immaculate wording. That would be the only way to get such a proposal to the voting stage.

What about something like all UN member Nations being subject to common rules and regulations such as designated testing areas or to allow (in RP terms only I guess) weapons inspectors. Obviously, some Regions may withold certain facts but if the proposal was right and immaculately worded I'm sure this could be circumvented. I personally would not like to even attempt to undertake such a mammoth task single-handedly, but would certainly offer any help to those who wish to do so.

This would hold true with any UN Resolution that is proposed. Either the resolution has to be quite unique or you have to make it unique so that the delegates who you are requesting to support it see something different about it that intriques them to vote to support the resolution.
As there are many resolutions waiting for support I suggest that we follow Bweezys idea

We may be able to do more good by choosing a few current un resolutions that have passed and tweak them up for amendment. We could then TG the amendments to the delgates for their support and after a period of time get the amendment put to the vote and hopefully passed.

Instead of trying a straightforward ban on nuclear weapons that won't get very far, you should start with limiting the number of nuclear weapons a country is allowed to have. Start with a larger number so many people will have little problem with it, then periodically decrease that number hopefully to insignificant amounts or best case scenario the banning of them.

That could be good start.

I like this Thoe (you don't mind Theo do you?). I was kind of thinking that myself but didn't put it down. The weapon inspectors could ensure that this is adhered to perhaps.

I also like this Micon. This would certainly be a good place to begin. Ammending existing resolutions is a damn sight easier than drafting new proposals and it also means that those Nations and/or Regions that diagreed with parts of the first would be more inclined to support it especially in regard to International Affairs. A multi-Regional approach would certainly increase the number of benefactors and ergo the number of supporters for said proposal/resolution. Your reference to Bweezy's post makes a lot of sense too. The generation of Delegate support would also ease this task as other Regions' Nations become involved. In a perfect world, this would accumulate until all UN Resolutions being drafted and supported by all UN member Nations and would be beneficial to all concerned.
