Title: UN Crashing
Carbanousa - February 23, 2004 11:51 PM (GMT)
I was just browsing through the NS forum when I came across this post. I was a little perturbed by the whole thing and was wondering if anyone knows anything about it or whether it's just empty bravado? I'm sure that the Mods/Admins would prbably have something to say but still - keh?
Here's the first part of the post:
I recently was browsing through the foums when I came across a topic involoving someone stealing a flag from some region named Gatesville.
I investigated the region and was somewhat shocked when I came across their factbook entry:
World Factbook Entry: Welcome Great Nation, Welcome. Our goal here is the forceful dissolving of the Liberal UN and it's recreation in our dark image. Now that we have our delegate and high council, we can work towards these ends. Visit our offsite forum (http://www.bbfree.com/antiUN/) and register there. Then you will see for yourself all that we offer here in Gatesville. Our regional motto is: "Death to the Liberal UN! We will rip out their hearts and steal their souls!

I have n't heard anything about it but it is very disturbing.

Nothing to get excited about. Much like there are Nazi regions, a few anti-UN regions were bound to spring up. I suspect they'll remain an irrelevant force. good to know the exist though, I'll keep an eye out.

disturbing indeed...do they have the strength to do what they say? it's a bold statement but they seem to be serious

Only a few are taking it serious. Most of them are just having fun playing with the dark-side.
What I find odd is the flag stealing part. I have no idea how that is done. I saw a post about it happening in Europe. They "took" the flag from the delgate then gave it back the next day and moved on. Very odd...

Check out 'Flag Thief' and 'Flag Thief 2', they're always stealing flags from delegates and they name the victim in the motto. Flag Thief is retired, but if you visit the region Flag Thiefs Lair, there's a post about the past victims (including the infamous Francos Spain).
I personally find it hilarious.

Flag stealing.
The next thing they'll be after our beer and that would cause a stir. Ah, but Star-Wars taught us the perils of playing with the Dark-Side. Before you know it they'll be Sith-Masters and capable of hurling Force-lightening about.
I wasn't sure how serious a notion this was and thought I had reasonable grounds to voice my concerns. Most have now been dissapated.
Thanks for your support. :)

DUDE thats Stupid aww well nothin you can do about it
Carbanousa - April 1, 2004 09:07 AM (GMT)
What's stupid? Flag stealing or Region crashing. No, flag stealing you can't do much about other than access someones account by 'piggy-backing' or taking a feed (HTML/XML/PHP or whatever) off their IP/ISP.
Alternatively you can just save the flag and use it yourself. That's the easiest option.
If your referring to Region crashing, this is a very threat, and one which can be prevented if the correct measures are put in place. It is not just a case of this however, as the appropriate strategies and counter-strategies are required based on gathered intelligence. It's not a black and white situation. These things rarely are. I would suggest asking those who have first hand experience about Region Crashing and Griefing about the implications. ;)

<<A little OOC note but...Are these people for real? Destroying a fictional UN? Who are these f**ked up people!? I mean christ, I know there are some real @$$h0l3$ online, especially in RPing but...This? These people take this s*** too seriously.>>

Usually it's people that want to overtake a Region Dariouz. Often, this is used in conjunction with an RP war. On the other hand, it also adds a new dimension to what would otherwise be a very static gameply mechanic. Crashers are admittedly a nuisance, but Griefers are the real threat. Some people just do it for kicks I guess.
