I have many many who survived the war without, only to lost the war within.

iM still on my first! but ihaven't seen many sellers this year. (for obvious reasons...)

I'm still using last years poppy. In fact, I found three and bought one last year. I have one in my coat, one in my suit jacket, and two in my desk just in case I lose one.

I lost one at work and hubby bought one outside Costco the other day.

It is refreshing to see that we Americans and Canadians share a special day to honor those that have so honorably and at such great sacrafice served our countries.

Our soldiers enlist in the armed forces for a multitude of reasons but there is an underlying feeling of patriotism that is shared by all of them. They are there risking life and limb so that I can say what's on my mind, go out and have pizza and all the other freedoms we too often take for granted.

We have the freedom to bash our governing officials and in my humble opinion, they deserve it for sure. (The last "Just" war we were in was WW2 as far as I'm concerned.) The rest have been a very very expensive joke. In any event, our soldiers are doing what needs to be done and in every instance, they are ALL heros and they deserve our respect and undying gratitude no matter how unjust the war they are fighting may seem.

Never again should our troops be treated as they were in the Viet Nam era.

I thank them all past, present and future for their service and sacrafice. :clapping:

Yeah, I have to respect that if I were born in another time, it would have been me in the trenches or hitting the beaches. And I know how much I would not want to be there, but just how very important it was.

I haven't seen this, but shouldn't maybe our cadets or some of our military reserve help passing out the poppies? It is pretty hard to find a seller, I find. I've been poppy-less for a day now.

On my third, but I can find one anywhere -- I found my first in the computer store at the U! Thought that was cool.

Stupid poppies... I agree with the holiday, but you think they could put them on safety pins or something?! :P

I picked up the one I'm wearing on the Wal-Mart floor. I dropped it once, but found it.

Suggestion: Some people use Canadian flag pins (if anyone knows what I'm talking about) in the middle of their poppy.

I finally donated money for a new one the other day and had a very lovely chat with a very old gentleman who fought in the war. It was a pleasant chat that made me feel really happy and fulfilled and I'm sure made his day just that much brighter knowing some young fart like me cares.

Interestingly, before that, I had the same one for the last five years. Safety pins are oh so much better.

I need to buy one tomorrow.

420_Celebrants - November 9, 2005 06:53 AM (GMT)
No - actually - you need to donate towards charity tomorrow.

Poppies are not *sold* - they are available in return for a donation.

Alas, it's the thought that counts.

I know. That's what I meant. :)

Harper and the poppy

pic...

I'd get angry, but ""they only had 80 years to perfect the technology" totally sound like something that I would say.
