Title: Throwing my hat in

420_Celebrants - September 26, 2005 09:32 PM (GMT)
I am here to officially announce that I plan to run for the Minister of Regional Affairs portfolio.

I currently act asthe Deputy Minister of Regional Affairs and have had a chance to participate in some items of interest in the past few weeks. These items have given me a broader idea of the specifics of the job and I believe that my skills might meet the needs of the position.

Please review this brief list of my platform issues:

* Greater sense of community and togetherness
* Accountability to standards and practices
* Create an effective plan for communication with all member nations
* Work with fellow Ministers and Deputy Ministers to make Canada the best region it can possibly be.

I am more than open to answering any questions on either my platform or my qualifications.

I thank you for your time and hope to see your support at the polls.

*passes around cookies, brownies, small sandwiches, insane root, and beverages while mingling around the deserted room, talking to random empty chairs.*

And the chairs seem to be talking back!

How would you like to facilitate stronger communication between the cabinet and the board?

* No way spell check catches omitted words.

By firstly somehow instituting a spell check into our forum so that messages get passed along clearly.

But since that isn't the issue ...

I have a few ideas floating around my head on this subject. Our region is very interesting in the fact that we have many active members in many different areas. I know of some who use the UN forum regularly, others that chat in the mIRC room frequently, many others that use this board daily and even some that keep abreast of topics and conversations, but don't check the boards all the time.

In as such, it is a shade hard to be able to get everyone the information all at once. And at some points, there might need to be a time where everyone is contacted, as we found out a few weeks ago with the server meltdown on the main NS site.

I plan to have a system set where I can effectively talk with all member nations, whether it be through email, board, mIRC, Instant Message or word of mouth - whatever works.

I do wish though to use all of our combined knowledge on this board in order to gain an insight into what the most effective way of communication is.

Now, in terms of opening up the channels of communication between cabinet members and board members, I plan on talking with Cabinet to institute a new section on this forum that will be password protected and will allow interested nations a chance to view a synopsis of the items pertaining to new laws and other items of importance and a chance to give their two cents on the proposal.

I quite believe that we are all in this together and everyones opinion is valid and might help in solving the issue at hand.

Funny but I've been thinking about ways to let the region know more about what the cabinet is up to. I don't however think that a passworded area with limited access is the correct approach.

I'm thinking of 1) starting a cabinet todo list posted and maintained in the MoJ area (thus visible to the public). 2) document guidelines for how to create and pass a law. Included should be a period to get public input. (which is not to say the cabinet should be ruled by majority opinion of the region)

The only reason I suggest a password protected area is for simple acts of defense strategy. Leaving it open to everyone might leave ourselves open to leaking information that isn't mean to be leaked.

I am, of course, open to putting heads together to get a master plan in action.

hudson bay - September 26, 2005 11:44 PM (GMT)
Oh a master plan - now you're talking

First we shall take this place, then the other place, then we shall rule the world...

I generaly like the idea, however I think such a list would be more apropriate if it was kept and maintained in the MoRA forum. That would open up the list to matters that might not necessarily have to do with laws, and consequently the MoJ.
In other words it would be somewhat similar to the Cabinet Report in the MoRA forum, only instead of covering what has been done, it would cover what needs to be done next.

Perhaps a "open" cabinet forum occassionally so that members of the region can see the cabinet in action (other than the action cabinet figures). The forum would be protected so that only cabinet could post in it. The region could post/further discuss in the House of Commons.

Just floating an idea out there.

*camera lights flash and a distinct murmur of excitement and anticipation abound as the throngs of journalists clammer around the podium*

*ahem* Thank you, one and all, for taking time out of your day to listen to my words. I know your time is precious and I do not want to waste it, so I shall simply say a few quick things.

First off, I welcome Canada6 into the race. I am sure that the addition of a strong deputy will make the pairing a strong consideration for the voters at large. Best of luck to Canada6 and their campaign.

Secondly, I am saddened to see the withdrawl of Daemon from the running. It would have been a great honour to run beside two worthy opponents. However, I can understand the circumstances at hand and think it is very noble of you to look out for the best of the region due to your time constraints.

Lastly, and most triumphantly, *takes a sip of water and clears his throat* I would like to announce that I have come to an agreement with a very worthy and impeccable individual to be my Deputy Minister if I am elected.

I believe between myself and Daemon, we can serve this region well. I do hope that you consider us as a solid team for MoRA.

Forums can be set up that way so this is achievable, Members would only be given the 'view' and 'read' permission.

I personally have issues with that, as to me that is saying that the cabinet members are on a higher level than non cabinet members.

I support openness of certain subjects to all member nations. And from that, I support and promote communication between cabinet an non cabinet members. To create a forum that non members can read but cannot post to defies my above noted support.

I still propose that a privitized forum with granted access is the best way to effectively get those involved who care to be involved and keep out the people who shouldn't be seeing that information.

canada6 - September 27, 2005 11:01 PM (GMT)
I agree with the open window, cabinet "read only" forum.

I think the "House of Commons" and the "Citizen's voice" forums are perfectly adequate for citizens being able to interact with the government and I support furthering the use of said forums.
