Title: Im off to the CENTER OF THE UNIVERSE!

Magnate of The Albertan Empire - September 16, 2005 03:19 PM (GMT)
Thats right, Im heading to Toronto next week for the very first time. Ill be staying for about 4 days in down town Canada. Since I've never been there, I was wondering if anyone could give me some tips on what to do and see in TO. Mainly where to eat, drink, and partay.

Almonaster - September 16, 2005 04:59 PM (GMT)
Can't help on the local knowlege, but I hope you have fun.

TinyVillages - September 16, 2005 05:02 PM (GMT)
Supply enough beer, and the party will come to you!

In other words, I'm of no help, but I felt oddly compelled to write a post. -_-

Have a great time, but I believe the true center of the Universe is several hundred miles to the ESE. I believe Toronto is the magnetic center of the universe. :P

There's tons to see and do....and tons of places to eat, drink, and party. Be a little more specific, and I can try and help you out :D

For good or for bad the center of the universe is shifting east. In about a decade or so it will be located here.

cursed centre of the universe. if it went west instead I 'd get a chance to visit it when it came near alberta.

Have yourself a great time, Mag! :D

Whoa - that would be totally unexpected - Alberta the center of the universe. Some how I'm guessing there is a universal law against that. (not that that is a bad thing for the good folks of Alberta)

Ess - September 16, 2005 11:50 PM (GMT)
If Emus waits long enough, it might just keep going east 'til it *does* hit Alta.!

Nah! Probably just shoot right by... :P

Beaver-Country-Canada - September 17, 2005 12:15 AM (GMT)
Might hit BC though ;)

WOO!

Have a good time, Mag!

Like chex said, whats on your mind? We'll point you in the right direction.

Just got back from the Hockey Hall of Fame myself... getting ready for the big season!

By the way, guess who has season openers to the Leafs!!!!! Wooooooo!

I recommend a trip to St. Lawrence market, pick up some food there (there is an awesome Sandwich place downstairs), then head to Centre Island if the weather is nice. Picnic there, then check out the Art Gallery of Ontario, head to King's street for supper and drinks. If you like pubs check out the Elephant and Castle or the Duke of Argle there. If not, there are some haut cuisine places on Kings, then head to Queens to the Cafe Crepe for an expresso and a crepe. Also see if there are any cool local shows when you are in town. The live music scene is superb!

Shit. I should move back!

Mr B!!!! Good to see ya :)

Magnate of The Albertan Empire - September 17, 2005 03:27 AM (GMT)
Thanks for the info Daemon and Mr.B. I have family in TO so they could probably find all those places easy.

Sushi?

Ho Su - Queen near John - kitty corner to the City TV building ... also another location at Yonge and Eglinton. Great food, decent service, good prices.

Bar/chillout place with good food?

Moxies at Fairview Mall has great amazing yummy food and each night is a different deal for alcomohol if you're of age.

Sneaky Dees (dunno the where it is, sorry) if you don't mind the occasional sighting of a cockroach - but the food is worth the interesting possibilities of bug fauna.

Shanghai Cowgirl - Queen and somethingorother - You *must* try their chicken fried steak with sweet potato fries. Definitely use the wasabi mayo too!

I'm sure to think of more.

Oh - if you like vegetarian, apparently The Bo is a really good place.

Magnate of The Albertan Empire - September 18, 2005 08:17 AM (GMT)
Cool. I do love the sushi, I'll try ur recomendation if I get the chance. :D

As soon as I find another job I'll be getting one.

I think I'm procrastinating because I have random vertigo - ladders, tall buildings, glass elevators sometimes trigger it, but aeroplanes are an enigma. I have flown, but not in anything jet-powered. Perhaps trnaquilisers may be in order for the flight (just in case).

I have vertigo, too - both sides of my head.
I had to get an MRI, but couldn't as I felt trapped with my head all pinned down and that machine is narrow! :ph43r: I got a CT scan instead. 2 sides is rare so they had to check for a tumour. I have never had probs flying, but I haven't flown in years, either.
Mine manifests itself most when I tilt my head certain ways.

*decides to quit rambling on and leave this thread for now...* :P

If anything, I've found jets feel more secure than prop planes. The inital take off acceleration is stronger, which just glues you to your seat, and gives you less time to be nervous in.

I have problems with vertigo too, but only when I am directly exposed to the drop. A simple handrail is usually enough to keep me on an even keel. If you ever go to Ben Nevis, though, watch out! There's a big steep drop-off into Observatory gulley (100m or so NW of the summit) which you can easily stumble across having only crossed a collapsed wire fence half way. (Guess who freaked himself that way once!)

Sneaky's! I go there all the time (my friend lives around there). The place is pretty gross, but the food's okay. Oh, and it's at the corner of College and Bathurst.

There are many many many sushi places in Toronto.

Ho Su is generally the one that I have found the absolute best. I'd kinda suggest not going around dinner time though ... they recently changed owners and the new owners don't seem to understand how to handle stressful times.

There is also Sushi Sky near Yonge and College (I believe). I *adore* their BBQ eel (best ever) and the gyoza isn't too shabby. The rice is nice and fluffy here too.

Almonaster - September 18, 2005 05:26 PM (GMT)
Mmmmm Gyoza dai suki!
