I would like to point out that Sparta Teritories did retract his previous comment about chex and issued a formal apology.

These offences are taken seriously and I would like you to understand you have been warned and another infraction could result in suspension or removal from the boards.

Sparta Teritories if you would like to dispute the cabinet's findings you can request a hearing.

Ironic that I'm pointing this out, since I had a hand in drafting the law, but the board ejection rules don't state that warnings can be given out. All it says is that suspensions, bans or ejections can take place.

A fifth paragraph likely ought to be added to the law, giving cabinet the power to give out warnings and other punishments short of suspension, ejection and banishment.

Luckly for us this forum has had so little experience with members getting out of hand.

The forum does have a built in warning system. Back when we were working on redoing the skin I remember that it was turned on. (I know I loaded color coordinated pips for it.) Now it seems to be turned off.

Perhaps we should turn it back on. It has five levels. When the cabinet issues a warning they could decide how strong of a warning to give. I've never had to use the system on all the forums I've been involved with so I'm not exactly sure how the levels are set.

Sparta Territories - July 10, 2005 01:21 PM (GMT)
Parrrrty, I would lke to request a hearing in to this matter.

Just to confirm - the warning system is still enabled.

Hmm that's weird. Don't see the warning pips, or the alt img or the warning buttons... Do you?

Parrrrtay - July 10, 2005 02:49 PM (GMT)
 don't see them

Judith Gap - July 10, 2005 02:49 PM (GMT)
I do. If I fill out the form, it looks like it could work.

hudson bay - July 10, 2005 02:58 PM (GMT)
Don't see it in IE either so it's not a browser issue...

hudson bay - July 10, 2005 03:02 PM (GMT)
Carb - in addition to the setting for turning on the warning system there are two other settings to check:

"Allow all other non-protected groups to see their own warn level and reasons?"

and

"Type of visual indicator?" need to be set to warn mode not rating mode. (not that I see either currently)

edit:
it's also possible that "members" could be set as a protected group but that doesn't seem likely.

hudson bay - July 10, 2005 03:41 PM (GMT)
I'm sure it's not the browser now. I turned the warning system on in another forum I manage and it displays like normal. (took me a while to figure out how to get to the warning panel but it's easy once you know how).

Carb (or any admin that happens to be awake) you might want to try turning the warning system off, clicking submit and then turning it back on.

hudson bay - July 10, 2005 04:26 PM (GMT)
I figured it out. Only mods or admins can see the warning pips. All though you can set it up so a person can see their own warn level.

I never knew that but it makes sense (never had to use the system before).

Don't know why ParrrrTay can't see it though....

I'm sorry about the confusion...

Checkers McDog - July 10, 2005 05:42 PM (GMT)
I played around with the warn settings....let me know if you guys can see it now.

hudson bay - July 10, 2005 08:14 PM (GMT)
I can see my individual setting. The big question is can Parrrrtay see it as a mod?

Also I wonder if Al likes being a "Deputy Prime Ministress" ? :P

Are you able to give warnings now?

Parrrrtay - July 10, 2005 08:45 PM (GMT)
Yes I think I can change his warning level, haven't tried so I am not sure it will work but it looks pretty simple.

Wouldn't we all have to see our own? I can't.

EDIT: Can now. D'oh.

Given who she is, I consider it an honour!

To Admins:

Perhaps you know this already but I had to play with it to figure it out.

For the Warn system to use all the pips the min and max values must be set. Leaving it at 0 & 0 will only allow 0% warn and 100% warn. I used a min of 0 and a max of 5 to have it work in the expected manner.

Also be careful and change the default for "Moderators can warn a member..." X times per day. If you wanted to be able to increase a warning to the max value of 5 and then through some missunderstanding want to decrease it back to 0 then a mod would need to be able to warn at least 10 times per day. Of course an admin can always over ride a mod's settings manually if needed.

If you have any questions please let me know...

Parrrrtay - July 11, 2005 12:26 AM (GMT)
Sparta Territories has requested to know how the members of the Cabinet voted on this issue.

I have informed him that all Cabinet members voted for this warning.

I made both changes earlier today. The min. and max. values are now 0 and 5, respectively. And I also made mods able to warn users up to 5 times per day.

Do I not see warning pips because I have maple leaves?

hudson bay - July 11, 2005 10:39 AM (GMT)
The warn level pips are under the date you joined.
