Title: NS Economy

bweezy - March 17, 2005 07:33 PM (GMT)
I've been made aware of an "add-on" tool which addresses each nation's economy: http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.php

Mine is here: http://nseconomy.thirdgeek.com/nseconomy.p...tion=bweezystan

There are also exchange rates for all nations in Canada, regional stats and domestic stats. Apparently, Canada has 377 billion people living in it. My country has a trade suprlus (yay!) and a 35% unemployment rate (boo).

Too cool! B)

Here's me!

Red cents appear to be pretty expensive in Redundancia.

I also note that Boreal Tundra's exchange rate is pretty close to 1, closer than anyone else who regularly posts here.

Yahooooo! Major trade surplus :-)

Here I am

Wow - I'm suprised you guys didn't already know about this. The new sort function (at the regional level) is very helpful...

My trade deficit is a bit of a concern, but with a fragile economy, that is to be expected.

Ahhh...

That's better! :)

kana da - March 18, 2005 03:55 AM (GMT)
Well, if I had my way, most of them would be at 100%, but even my poor math skills tell me that's impossible.

Unemployment rate dropped to below 35% I rock...

Well, I've got a trade deficit...but at least I have a high GDP, and a low unemployment rate! :D

If you guys want to talk about NS economics then I'd like to ask a questin I've yet to get a good answer on:

How is it possible to have a sound economy with a 100% tax rate? Wouldn't the country have to become a barter economy since every cent is taxed no matter what? Doesn't a 100% tax rate imply that the only commercial entity that exists is the government? And if that is so wouldn't the tax rate really be 0% (since taxing only yourself the money goes right back to yourself)?

bweezy - March 18, 2005 05:43 PM (GMT)
My only answer to that is that 100% is the highest tax bracket. Canada has three tax brackets (four if you count the 0% bracket on the first $8000 or so of income). Once you hit a certain thresshold of income, all money past that income gets taxed at the higher rate.

the 100% rate could just mean that after $xxxxxx.xx dollars earned, all your money is taxed.

Also, what I don't understand is that I've cut my tax rate repeatedly (the secretary issue), and yet my tax rate stays at 100%...

hudson bay - March 18, 2005 05:48 PM (GMT)
When you are in the nation screen it says it's the AVERAGE rate. An average of 100% pretty much means all income goes to the government. For very short periods of time a nation might still be able to have an economy with all income flowing to the government. But i would think that very quickly the incentive to have any income would disappear.

kana da - March 18, 2005 11:14 PM (GMT)
Bweezy, when it says 100%, it can actually mean more.

If the money needed to pay for all your services totals more than 100%, it will list 100% only, but when it comes time to reduce taxes, then it will go from your "real" tax rate.

bweezy - March 21, 2005 04:19 PM (GMT)
Because I'm such a Wicked awesome leader, I've managed to drop my unemployment rate from 35 % to just over 10% over the weekend. My trade surplus is up to 79 billion, and my per capita GDP is up by 50% (though, it is admittedly still pretty low).

Carbanousa - March 21, 2005 04:27 PM (GMT)
GDP Per Capita: $32,358.44
Unemployment Rate: 2.56%
Consumption: $0.00
Government Budget: $87,974,523,589,750.02
Government Expenditures: $82,696,052,174,365.02
Goverment Waste: $5,278,471,415,385.00
Trade Surplus: $626,922,710,913.06

It would also appear that we laugh at the Environment with no budget at all.
I'm quite surprised at the low unemployment rate though...
