Title: Let's improve the election process

I'd like to make myself available to work to improve Canada by becoming the Minister of Justice.

The main item on my platform is to enhance the language of the election section of the constitution, so that elections will not be held during the holiday period at the end of the year. The current vague language helped cause DrunkenHosers to resign as Minister of Regional Affairs at the start of the last election period. I will also work with the other members of the cabinet to ensure that civil and political liberties of the members of the region are continuously refined.

It is my understanding that the current Minister feels there is no need to make changes to this section of the constitution thus giving the voters a clear distinction in our positions:

QUOTE
I don't belive there should be an ammendment. I think this was a one time mistake, just because everyone was too busy to notice. After all, this is a game, and RL interferes.

(this is how they felt at the beginning of the last campaign, I'm not sure if that is still their position)

The suggestion that I made in December on how to prevent elections being held during the holidays was as follows:

QUOTE
Here's my suggestions on how to amend the election section of the constitution (changes in bold):

1. Elections shall be held every two calendar months during the months of January, March, May, July, September and November. The Elections shall be organized by the Minister of Regional Affairs. Elections shall be announced by the first Thursday of each election month. They shall take place on the Regional off-site Board. The elections shall elect members to Cabinet, as outlined in Article II.

- and -

4. The voting period of Elections shall commence at 9:00 a.m Eastern Time on the last Thursday of the month, and end at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on the following Sunday.

These changes would permanently move the elections out of the holiday period.

Setting the elections for the last Thursday allows the elections to be scheduled in advance in the forum calendar for all to see.

In this process the minimum election period would be approximately one month.

An alternative to my suggestion was made by Daemon. Daemon proposed:
QUOTE
"Elections shall be held at least every three calendar months.”

Please vote for me if you would like to see the cabinet address the issue of steering clear of the holding of elections during the holidays. Thanks.

It is not often that voters get to know who the full team of a Ministry will be in advance of the election. It is my pleasure to announce that Daemon has aggreed to be the Deputy Minister of Justice if I win.

Hopfully you agree with me that Daemon's contributions to the forum have been thoughtful and of a high quality. I think we will make a great team, I look forward to working with him if we should win the election.

Once I heard the elections were going to start, I debated running or not. I decided that if there was someone running for MoJ that I belived could do the job, I'd leave it to them. Well, I think HB will do good, and I'm going to abstain running, and throw my support behind Hudson Bay. :)

Thanks for the support OF. :)

Hopefully someone else will decide to run for this position. Giving voters a choice is important. IMHO having a campaign where positions are contrasted is useful to everyone.

The Minister of Justice shall draft laws and UN resolutions at the request of Cabinet, or on its own initiative.

In an attempt to get a little more life in this election, and to be up-front with everyone, I'd like to go on the record as stating that I have no interest in the UN. I'm of the opinion that it is a feature that was added to the game with good intentions but it ended up as a waste of time.

If asked to draft a UN resolution I will do my best but I have no intentions of proposing my own UN resolution. If there are members of the region that would like to see Canada get more involved in the UN please step up and run for office.
