I opened my campaign speech last term with the statement that it had been an honour and a pleasure to serve this region as Minister of Regional Affairs. This is still true. So, once I again, I am standing for re-election.

My view of the role of the MRA has not changed. I see two principle functions for this ministry: to communicate the actions and policies of the government to the populace, through the weekly cabinet reports and in the House of Commons; and to be an advocate for the citizenry within cabinet. But the public record over my time in office is probably a better measure of how I will act in the future than any statement of principles.

The past term has seen a marked increase in participation in the Role Play forums. The credit for this belongs to the participants, not me. However, I have attempted to foster this growth by appointing an RP Coordinator. I hope to see on-going progress in this area over the next term.

This past term also saw the creation of the News Desk forum, and the appointment of a Press Secretary. The News Desk forum has not been an overwhelming success; it has not generated as much activity as might have been hoped. But, nothing ventured, nothing gained. The Press Secretary, on the other hand, did some excellent work on the region's behalf, improving our visibility on the world stage. This is another initiative that I would be looking to preserve and enhance, in the future.
