Checkers McDog - October 1, 2004 01:48 AM (GMT)
October 7-11th. I am going to put up the campaign forums sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Freezing Cold Water - October 1, 2004 01:50 AM (GMT)
Okay, Thanks. :) Can i tell/send a pm to you to tell you what positions I plan to run for?

Checkers McDog - October 1, 2004 01:52 AM (GMT)
You don't have to, but go right ahead ^_^

Freezing Cold Water - October 1, 2004 01:57 AM (GMT)
:Canada: Okay, I wish to run for:
  • Minister of Doughnuts and Beer
  • Minister of Foreign Affairs
  • Minister of Justice
  • Minister of Defence
Please Note: I am not running for minister of regional affairs because I am not good at writing and I believe DrunkenHosers is doing a great job.

Is that okay Checkers McDog?

Checkers McDog - October 1, 2004 01:59 AM (GMT)
That's fine....you can run for as many positions as you want, but may only accept one. :)

Freezing Cold Water - October 1, 2004 02:00 AM (GMT)

October 7-11th. I am going to put up the campaign forums sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Sorry, that was a miscounting on my part. They're actually supposed to be on Oct. 14-17th. (Some one should double check that, just in case I'm wrong again :P ).

I'll still have the election threads up fairly soon.

Freezing Cold Water - October 1, 2004 03:08 AM (GMT)
Okay, thanks for letting me know about the change.

DrunkenHosers - October 1, 2004 03:18 AM (GMT)
The first complete sentence of the constitution is "Elections shall be held every two calendar months." The last elections were held August 12 - 15. I think either the 7 - 10 or 14 - 17 weekend would qualify. (However, using the 8 week interpretation, it should be the 7 - 10 weekend, which means we're a little late in getting organized. Oops.)

Okay, thanks. Let me know the official date when it is finalized. :Canada:

That's what I figured at first....that's why I said the 7-11 initially. But I went back and counted the weeks between all our prior elections. So far we've been consistently holding elections with 8 weeks in between. Meaning the 9th Thursday, from the week directly following the elections.

So if we're going to be consistent, the elections should be held every 9 weeks. (2 calendar months, 8 weeks, in between elections....thus making it Oct. 14th-17th.

But saw on this: (Something that Blackshear wrote that the elections are to be held October 7-12; it's in bold and big letters. Thanks, FCW)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Canada Selects Cabinet in Hotly Contested Election

Canada, NS - Aug. 17, 2004 - Canada, the fourth largest user created region in NationStates, in one of the most competitive elections in its history, selected a new cabinet over the weekend. The incumbent Minister of Justice, Micon, was chosen over former Deputy Prime Minister, Oilers Fans, by a mere six votes. Beaver-Country-Canada was returned as Minister of Foreign Affairs, defeating highly regarded newcomers Columberta and Freezing Cold Water. DrunkenHosers retained the Ministry of Regional Affairs, garnering a convincing 64% of the vote over opponents Octopolis and Freezing Cold Water. Carbanousa and Ess were acclaimed to the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Doughnuts and Beer, respectively.

Canadian Prime Minister and UN Delegate Checkers McDog was thrilled by the competitiveness of the elections and by the participation of several new nations in regional politics. "Though experience is a vital asset, the newcomers have a fresh perspective on what needs to be done and what is lacking in the region."

Former Prime Minister, Bweezy, was also encouraged by the involvement of Canada's newer citizens, but acknowledged the difficulties they faced in getting elected. "Name recognition matters and, in two cases, we had people running who joined the region less than a week before the elections. That was a huge disadvantage for them.

Newly elected Minister of Foreign Affairs, Beaver-Country-Canada advised newcomers to take a more cautious approach. "I think new citizens should not run for office until they have been on the boards a certain amount of time, and know how the boards work. About a month's experience is due. That way, as well, it gives you a better chance of winning or receiving more votes, due to people knowing your name and how you act on the boards."

Oilers Fans, however, was not discouraged by his narrow defeat to the four-term Minister of Justice. "This loss isn't going to stop me from future elections. I'm glad for Micon. In the end, experience always wins." He is currently considering applying the open Deputy Minister of Justice position.

Dual candidate, Freesing Cold Waters, was similarly unbowed by the results. "[I'm] disappointed that I did not win, but that is life, so I have to move on." He has recently launched a new political party and plans on running for office in the next regional elections.

Checkers sees a promising future for the defeated candidates. "I think with more participation, in the next two months, they have a strong chance of winning in the October elections."

Minister of Foreign Affairs candidate, Columberta, is already preparing for the next fight. "This process has made me appreciate what a great region Canada is, where elections are free and fair and anyone has the chance to challenge for office."

The next elections will be held October 7-12.

Canada backgrounder: A politically neutral region of 546 nations, Canada has experienced a recent population surge and is currently the fourth largest user created region and tenth largest overall. It has held democratic elections every two months since February 2004.

Blackshear only wrote that because I told him that's when the next elections will be.

I was wrong, if we go by a consistent count of weeks between elections....the next one's should be held October 14-17th.

Freezing Cold Water - October 1, 2004 11:31 PM (GMT)
Okay, I guess the elections are on: October 14-17th, right?

Yes. ^_^

Unless someone proves that I counted wrong again....but I counted it over a whole bunch of times, and still came down to the 14th-17th.

Okay, Thanks -_-
