Title: South Pacific resident insults TPC!
Description: and Bweezy's invovlement.

Almonaster - September 27, 2004 11:43 PM (GMT)
I just spotted this on the Voice of the Proletariat discussing some heat arising between some members of the South Pacific and The Proletariat Coalition. Apparently this exchange took place in the Canadian Embassy, and Bweezy made some representations on the matter.

Bweezy, could you give us your thoughts on what happened?

(I hope this is the right board - I couldn't see where else to put it.)

Well, it's nice to see we made TPC's news :P

More info about this incident can be found here.

SP resident Geomania made a backhanded comment about TPC saying they "were trustworthy for a bunch of Communists" (or something to that effect). I asked for clarification, hoping he'd retract the statement, or give another explanation for his comment showing us it was not meant as a slight against TPC. He responded by stating that Communists were dishonourable. I then voiced my disapproval. I took offence that he would make such an inappropriate comment in the Canadian embassy, when the SP has on topic threads for that kind of commentary. Our embassy was not the place for such a comment, and those comments, in my view were inappropriate and unwelcome.

I also suggested the SP government ought to have intervened and prevented Geomania from using our embassy to promote his narrow agenda. Some (but not all) SP cabinet ministers then took offence to my comment. Then some little kid from Malta, aged 12 or 13, threatened to kill me, and all hell broke loose.

Then the situation resolved itself when cooler heads prevailed. Geomania was forced to apologize, and the person who threatened to kill me was given a warning and a suspension.

I should point out that ONLY Geomania insulted TPC. THe rest of the region was angry with me, not TPC.

If you have an issue with anyone, it should not be the south pacific, but it should be with Geomania. As for background, Geomania is quite involved with the Rejected Realms Army, the ADN and is a hanger on in the South Pacific (Geo is the only person in the history of the South Pacific to be have a non-confidence motion brought against him - he resigned before he could be impeached and thrown out of office for incompetence -he was their Secretary of Foriegn Affairs in October - November 2003, until his resignation).

The views of Geomania should not be seen as the views of the South Pacific.

I noticed in the Turmoil thread that you had various concerns about the action (or rather lack thereof) on the part of the SP government. Have any of these issues been resolved, and what impact do you see this as having on future relations with the South Pacific?

I'm not in government, so its not my decision to make. I will say that I was impressed that the SP did rule on the matter within 48 hours, made Geo appologize, and did recognize that his actions were improper.

As such, I have to say I have no real quarel with the region as a whole. I have only seen one other incident dealt with in a quicker manner in my 15 months at Nationstates, so needless to say, I was impressed and very satisfied at their ultimate response, that being demanding an apology from Geo, having him deliver it to our ambassador, and the airing of public statements by several high ranking SPers stating that Geo's actions were wrong and against SP rules.

As I said, I would have liked it if someone had jumped in sooner to stop Geo, and a suggestion has been made to come up with an ambassadorial protocol to prevent this from happening again.

All in all, speaking merely as a pundit, I don't see this affecting SP-Canada relations. Geo is entitled to his opinion. He just isn't entitled to improperly express it in another nation's embassy, and I am certain he won't be stupid enough to do something like that again.

I do see this as affecting SP-bweezy relations - they don't like me much - I tend to be a thorn in their side, even when I don't mean to be. I also think Geomania-Canada relations are going to remain cool for some time to come. However, I don't see this as affecting relations between the regions as a whole.

OK, thanks. That pretty much wraps it up for me.

The discussion of TPC article referenced above is found here.

I referred them to this thread as it gives further background.
