Title: Guest Login
C-Ton - September 7, 2004 02:50 PM (GMT)
I was wondering if we could have a general Guest Login to this Website and post the fact that there is a guest account when we login.
This way those that do not wish to sign up can see the pages here and post replies as a guest.

I'd be up for it....does anyone see a problem with it? Or have any other suggestions/comments/complaints about it?
(EDIT: I've moved this thread to the CV forum, btw)

I've no problem. It'll juast mean not enabling the 'vote' function for onsite polls is all. Easy to do. Either that or just modify the Guest mask with limited permissions for certain things.
If you want to do it, it's fine by me. It should help the forum to become more visitor/guest friendly. If it doesn't work out, we can always review it in time.

Personally, I think there should be viewing rights only for guests....to post they must sign up.

Yeah - I think that was the idea behind the current set up. Viewing rights would be good though - it would let people know what we're about without going through the trouble signing up.

Many other Regions only make the out-of-character forums viewable as a guest. You can post, create new topics, but cannot vote in polls etc. Also, the Regional business is unavailable until the guest registers. This would be simple to set up and would allow guests to get a feel for the Region without necessarily getting involved in the politics.

I agree I like the open concept approach. If it gets abused then we can always revoke it.

Personally, I would prefer to have the regional political threads visible too. That way they can admire our fabulous regional gov't :D . Seriously though, I think they'd get an even better feel for the region, if they knew what we were about politically.

What about having a guest login as default, that way they can view all the pages but if they want to post they have to sign in.
We can take the security of viewing and entering the site and put it on posting only.... possible?
This way we could put links up around nationstates to certain threads.
