Title: Real Regional Olympics!
Description: Let's play for real, well almost

Diskadia - August 29, 2004 08:21 PM (GMT)
How about this region host real olympics, or rather commonwealth games. We could play games from Yahoo allowing an audience an even judges. Countries would have to compete to host the games. Whoever gets to host them organizes them. Countries could win medals and put it on thier nation website. Countries who get to host them would be remembered by how well they did in organizing them. Judges would be the IOC as well and the IOC in turn would be appointed by a newly created Minister of Sports. The IOC would also of course choose the games. Yahoo and Geocities usernames would be valid for the games and the cost for usernames is nothing. Games I propose would be on Yahoo, and main events would be pool, chess, checkers, even a few card games.

I like the idea, but then again, I am a card nut and have been playing on Yahoo for a few years.
I don't play any of the games you've mentioned at all anymore, but I do play Spades, Hearts, Gin and Euchre.
Spades and Euchre are partner games, though.
They also have Blackjack, Poker and Literati, which is like an on-line Scrabble game and you can have 2 to 5 players playing against each other.
Let's see what everyone else says. :)

I like the idea too...but it's only going to work if there's someone out there willing to organize it...

go with pool!!! i rock at yahoo pool!!!

sounds like a reasonable idea to me....dont have too many card games though.......that could get a little boring

Tsk! <_<

Card games aren't boring if you like card games. ;)

:P

Diskadia - August 30, 2004 12:28 AM (GMT)
I'll organize it, I will. Diskadia will host the first one.
I can do it!

MrPopo - August 30, 2004 01:00 AM (GMT)
i spose its up to the host to decide the events but I'd go for literati, poker, blackjack, and pool. I was going to talk to SS about this but hey if you wanna organize it then by all means....

You do realize, however, that you will need to have several players online at the same time and a watcher/moderator/nonparticipant for this to work

Diskadia - August 30, 2004 01:10 AM (GMT)
yep. There will be 2 judges and as many audience members as the room can take (after players) I will only organize one Olympics games (or more if I want to get picked for future ones). all future games or this one if im not picked will be organized by the country picked to host them.

I will password the games and I will be at 90% of the games to watch. Only registered members of canada's forum will be eligable to compete and view the games, and yes I will compete too. But this needs aproval. I would prefer if an IOC would choose me as opposed to just me saying I'll host them. The IOC should:

a: picked out by our PM checkers

b: picked out by the minister of beer and doughnuts

c: picked out by a newly created minister of sports

I'd go with option B. with the PM's aproving the ministers descision.

We have something called the Canadian Sporting Agency. It's a division of the Ministry of Doughnuts and Beer. (President: Saskatoon Saskatchewan, VP: MrPopo) This should fall under their jurisdiction.

Yeah!

ss, popo!

Get on this!!

;) :P  :D ;)

Diskadia - August 30, 2004 02:40 AM (GMT)
I think that the sporting agency should set up the judges and assign them and such after the games have been scheduled in the host city. And as i said i would have no problem selecting the events scheduling them, and presenting my bid to the Sporting agency.

MrPopo - August 30, 2004 11:35 AM (GMT)
as I stated in the PM you sent me, Im running it by the prez right now so give him a little bit to respond before starting anything.

I still think we might have problems with getting people online at the same time. bt that's just me. We may need 3 judges. That may make you a non participant Disk. Would you be willing?

Diskadia - August 30, 2004 07:05 PM (GMT)
Yep. Hear that? I'd STILL do it. I just need criterea to follow and I'll follow it. And besides, if this is managed well I'm sure there will be others. Even if there isn't, then hosting the only one is still something to be proud of. So yes even if I was not a participant I would still organize the games.

Ess - August 30, 2004 07:09 PM (GMT)
^ is a trooper! :D

Scanada - August 31, 2004 05:18 AM (GMT)
what dates are we thinking?

Diskadia - August 31, 2004 05:27 AM (GMT)
Late September is what I'm aiming for, provided everything gets approved. I will of course be pre planning everything, and once it's approved i will put the plans into work.

Nyu - September 17, 2004 02:47 AM (GMT)
So... Is this venture still taking place? Maybe get some "sign-up sheets" for individual events so we can grasp how many will play and in what.

:ph43r: :ph43r:

MrPopo - September 17, 2004 05:21 AM (GMT)
I never heard a word back from SS, or DISKADIA so I can't tell you. I for one will likely not have time now to run it. So...

Diskadia - September 17, 2004 06:47 AM (GMT)
well im back. i haven't scared you by disapearing have i? Now down to business

Well nothing can go forward until i have aproval so once i get that ill officialy start the games. I would like to get a schedule set up in the meantime.

Its unfortunate that neither me nor Mr.Popo once had the time we did before to manage this. However , I will manage it, if and only if, there are enough players. I'll start a sign up thread and see who wants to take part and in what. there is to be a 6 player minimum for all games. and if there is more than 16 players to a game ill turn it into a tournament. I still want this to go forward. I hope enough people agree.

saskatoon saskatchewan - September 17, 2004 11:15 PM (GMT)
Well, you have approval(i'm assuming this is my department) however, I don't know how good I will be @ organizing it, but, I'll do whatever you need to get done. Send me a PM regarding the details of this.

(Popo, I don't recall seeing getting a PM from you re: this. Unless, i'm going crazy, which is most likely the case.)

Ess - September 17, 2004 11:36 PM (GMT)
Yes, ss, could you, MrP and Diskadia work this all out?

Thanks!

Ess :)
