Title: Candidacy Declaration

Carbanousa - August 1, 2004 03:11 PM (GMT)
This is to announce Carbanousa's candidacy for the position of Minister of Defence. I will submit a more detailed application/resumé tomorrow morning (GMT).

Blackshear - August 8, 2004 03:19 PM (GMT)
Just a few questions:

What was your original motivation for running for office and why do you want to continue in this role?

What is your vision for the Ministry of Defence?

What skills and experiences do you possess that make you suitable for this position?

Carbanousa - August 8, 2004 07:07 PM (GMT)
I'll answer these questions to the best of my ability and hope that they are to everyone's satisfaction.

What was your original motivation for running for office and why do you want to continue in this role?

My original motivation in running for office was to provide Canada with an active and reliable Intelligence network/agency for the application of Regional defence should the need arise. This, to some extent has already been achieved but there is still room for developments and innovations. The continuation in role would allow this to occur, through Regional participation, and recent experiences. My experiences in several major incidents as well as both direct and indirect involvement with these should provide the necessary experiences to do so. Question number three will hopefully provide some clarification on these as it would detract from the questions order.

What is your vision for the Ministry of Defence?

My vision for the Defence Ministry could be called ongoing and generally focuses, although not exclusively, on the following seven points:

1) To work with the Minister and Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Affairs in a proactive approach for conducting National and International Relations and acquisition of Intelligence;

2) To work with the Minister of Justice, where appropriate, in clear cases of constitutional breach, breach of the Board Use guidelines, or situation that requires both the involvement of the Minister of Justice and Minister of Defence;

3) Continuation in the development of the existing Intelligence network to provide civilian, military, and poltical information on specific Regions. To liase with either the Minister of Foreign and/or Regional Affairs regarding such information before submission to Cabinet, Prime Minister, or Delegate;

4) Attend to the ongoing development of the Canadian Defence Force (the CDF). The CDF would be primarily used for Regional Defence but if required, a proportional percentage may be used for peace-keeping missions with known and proven allied Regions;
4a) Each case would be judged and discussed upon it's own merits and analysis of available fact

5) To nurture a constructive dialogue at all times, in Cabinet, with particular emphasis on the Minister of Foreign and Regional Affairs regarding Regional Security;

6) To uphold within the grounds of 'beyond all doubt for Regional security', the constitution of Canada;

7) To consolidate Canada's commitment to democracy, and mediator position within the UN. This will be undertaken in conjunction with the Minister of Foreign Affairs' agenda, but not failing to recognise that Canada also possesses the right to bear arms in Regional Defence

What skills and experiences do you possess that make you suitable for this position?

Whilst Minister of Defence for Canada in previous terms, there have been a number of incidents that we unfortunately became involved in. The first of these was the confrontation between England, Northern Ireland, and the United Kingdom,
where pertinent information was both collected and acted upon to aid the resolution of the situation. At no point was Canada's neutrality jeopardised, nor the relationship, either diplomatically or otherwise, between our two Regions. By working closely with the then current Delegate/PM the situation was stabilised without the taking of undue risks. This incident furthered the ties between our two Regions and, in my opinion, can only be beneficial to Canada.

The situations with the South Pacific, particularly the NewCanAmerica incident is one in which I hope demonstrates the ability and aptitude for Inter-governmental cooperation and the investigation of a mutual threat to our security and relations. More recently, there has been the ongoing feud with the Region of Alberta in which those protagonist Nations were placed under surveillance without either detection or placing Canada at risk. Which I hope, goes someway, in proving both the effectiveness and necessity for an active Intelligence network.

The most recent large scale situation, as I'm sure everybody is aware, was the catpure of th North Pacific. I'm sure Blackshear will agree when I say that assistance was offered in the reclaiming of the North Pacific as well as suggestions concerning the stratification of the North Pacific's Security and Intelligence to help prevent future incursions.

Having now understood, and have first-hand experience of Operation Puppet Master, it will only be a matter of time before other Regions modify this to work on a smaller scale. The planning stages are disntinctive, but the execution is slightly more difficult to pinpoint. It is also very difficult to formulate a solid defence against this strategy (for undisclosable reasons at this time) and only by acting quickly can a Region be safegaurded, to an extent. Such is the brutal efficiency of the Operation.

I hope that these responses are to your satisfactions, and will endeavor to clarify should need be.

I can, indeed, vouch for this statement.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. Their purpose was to, hopefully, clarify the positions of the various candidates and to help the voters, especially newcomers like myself, make a more informed choice in the upcoming elections. You've been most helpful, Carbanousa. Again, thank you.

Carbanousa - August 9, 2004 11:41 PM (GMT)
I just hope everything was explained clearly. you also inadvertantly spared me a job as well Blackshear, as due to your exemplary questions, it was not necessary to submit the proposed resumé. For that, you have my thanks.

Blackshear - August 9, 2004 11:48 PM (GMT)
The delayed release of your resume was actually the catalyst for my questioning of the candidates. ;)

*phew*
Then it had some purpose afterall. ^_^

What are your views on the antiwar coalition?

Carbanousa - August 11, 2004 01:10 PM (GMT)
I need to review the coalition details and forumulate my response. The reason I say this is because the coalition thread is located in the Genral RP Forum. There is often a fine line between the RP elements and the systemic elements of the NationStates engine and gameplay. Whereas RP war is generally agreed upon, Region Crashing/Griefing is not generally so. I will however, respond in more detail after I have read, understood, and contextualised the Anti-war coalition thread. I hope this is to your satisfaction.

MrPopo - August 11, 2004 03:16 PM (GMT)
I will assist ye here.

I believe (could be mistaken) that the antiwar coalition doesn't have any implications on regional politics or crashing or the like. Its partial debate and partial rp. And I know how some of you don't like to roleplay and such...but y'all should at least debate about it! It's fun :D

Anyways that should save you some time.
C-Ton, direct this question at Octopolis, as he's running for cabinet and wants to do more with roleplay as a whole.

C-Ton - August 15, 2004 03:14 PM (GMT)
Man Mr Popo, You're everywhere,
You love this game!

so cool..
thanks for the tip.

It would be nice to get more people involved in this coalition.

Peace

C-Ton
