I have been thinking about our region's role with the UN in recent days. It seems to me that the UN is the vehicle through which this region can effect global change and put forth its international agenda.
I thought I throw out the idea of a Canada-UN working group, which would look at the UN, its weaknesses, and how we can propose positive changes to reverse those weaknesses.
In essence, I was wondering if there would be any interest whatsoever in setting up a group of interested members of the region to audit current resolutions, identify areas of concern where change is warranted, and then draft proposals, lobby for quorum and the lobby for our resolutions to get passed by the UN Assembly.
As some of you may know, I recently put forth a proposal at the UN - it was a neat experience, and showed me that to pass a resolution requires hard work. Between drafting the resolution, posting it, and contacting 100 or so delegates in an attempt to get quorum, it took a lot of time.
It was fun, but too much for me to do on my own. However, between the half-dozen or so "hard core" Nation States players around here, I think we could develop a "UN Machine" of sorts - drafting proposals, lobbying for quorum and then lobbying for adoption of the resolution.
I think it may also add some discussion and debate to our region (what proposals to put forh, agreeing on a final wording, strategizing over which day to post the proposal (i.e.; not the day before a long weekend), etc.
Anyone else interested in setting a UN working group up?
It's a great idea Bweezy. I've also tried unsuccessfully to get a proposal through to resolution stage. The best I ever did was to get about half of the required votes.
Presently, Canada's delegate vote counts for about 45 votes at the UN on resolutions. If we could get all of the people in Canada to vote with one voice, we could be a major force in the UN. I've never compiled the numbers, but I'm guessing that we probably have 60 or 70 UN nations. The key is to get everyone to vote the same way. If we could accomplish that, we'd come in with 100+ votes on a given resolution. Not only would that give us lots of clout on resolutions, but we'd have a huge advantage when it comes to pushing a proposal through to resolution.
Canada could be the major player at the UN.

td, the thing is we could have even more people in the un, i can think of 2 off hand who were in the un but got kicked out do to them both using the same computer. i think as delegate you should try to get more people to join the un and get people who were unjustly kicked out of the un back into it
I know who you're talking about Chopsuii, and the rules of NS are very clear. I warned them many times to no avail. No amount of begging or pleading will get them reinstated in the UN. The Mods of NS are benevolent dictators of a sort, but they indeed rule absolutely.
The rule is something to this effect:
No matter how many players use the same computer, out of all nations, those players may only have ONE UN player at a time among them. The "at a time" clause was added so that players using the same computer could maybe take turns being in the UN.
Fair? Not really, for honest players. But the reason for the rule is that each player is only allowed to have one UN member nation, for many reasons. One of the ways for the moderators of the game to scan for cheaters is to compare the IP address that a player uses. For nations that match IPs, the moderators have to assume that the player at that IP address is "multiing". There can be absolutely no deviation from this rule, simply because if one were allowed to use the excuse that "my brother/friend/father/sister/cousin," or whomever, "is such-and-such nation" then every cheater in the game would be screaming bloody murder. And trust me, there are plenty of people who would do this. To date, I think the record for UN multiing is one computer controlling 80 UN nations. For serious infractions, players even IP banned from playing the game at all.
I hope this makes some sense to you Chopsuii.
