Ik weet dat er al wel gepraat is over de Sai/Jitte, maar dit stukje wilde ik jullie toch niet onthouden:

From: Ancient Chinese Weapons, A martial Artist's Guide,
by Dr Yang, Jwing-ming

Hairpin or Sai (Chai)
The Sai was originally a hairpin in ancient times and was later derived into a dagger-like very short weapon, finally becoming the sai. The sai consisted of a short, tapered, metal rod, dull at the point, with flared metal prongs guarding the handle. The prongs could be pointed up, or as in the case of the sai used by Southern Chinese, one prong flared upward and the other downward. The sai was designed for very close fighting, and was predominantly a defence weapon. It has very little attacking potential. The prongs of the sai, if flared upward, were used to violently block the opponent's weapons. If one prong pointed downward, it was used to parry the enemy's blows. The sai can be used offensively for stabbing, especially the throat, or striking. The shortness of this weapon makes it very easy to rotate it into the arm, and use the metal tip of the handle for striking at very close range. Often a martial artist carried two sai. martial artists in Canton and Fujian Provinces favored the sai, as did the Taiwanese.
The history of the sai's development is unknown. It may date form the Ming Dynasty, (1368-1644 A.D.)
