Title: The New RPG
Boredom - October 5, 2004 08:38 AM (GMT)
Alright, considering I only had about a week to prepare (and I used at least half of that week playing Renegade Alert xD), I think it's alright.
This RPG isn't a dice rpg, or a turn based RPG. It's essentially "The Guardians of Shiroto" except with a different storyline, and a few other things. For one, I'm going to control all NPCs and monsters. The only time I'll be stepping in is if two players fight with each other, a player and a monster (or NPC) engage in combat, or if you're talking to an NPC. Besides that (and explaining backgrounds) you are free to do as much as you want per day, unless you're leaving an area, or moving into any area with monsters, more on that when I get to how the moving around part of the game works.
Onto monsters, NPCs, characters, and battling.
NPCs, Monsters, and characters will all use a stat system, characters will start with 10 in all skills, where-as NPCs and Monsters will (if you're used to table-top RPGs, etc. this is pretty similar) use pre-determined stats. There will also be classes (more like "jobs"), these will determine which spells you can be taught by NPCs, you will be able to learn these from guildmasters in cities, there is no limit to the jobs you can learn. Rather than leveling on this RPG, you'll simply get better and better in stats, and the better you get the more the NPC guildmasters will teach you as far as spells go. More on the subject of spells, special player made spells will be explained in the story.
Swords, armor, and shields, oh my!
Weaponry and armor in this game will add to your stats, i.e. +8 defense on a medium shield will just increase that stat by (guess) 8. You can name your weaponry for additional money. There will be some special items which add spells, damage reduction, etc. Most items uses will be easy to recognize just by reading their description.
The story
This RPG follows a standard 'anything' storyline, so bet with somebody else when you see something you're sure you can guess.
In a world somewhere (I can't think of a name right now, I'll think it up later xD), wars are breaking out everywhere. One town's (another name that I can't think of yet) king has knowledge of an evil sealed behind an ancient door regaining strength. The other kings will not listen to him about it however, thinking he's trying to trick them into diverting their attention and attacking them while they're weak. So, he turns to his magicians to find a way to transport heroes here from other places, as there are none left on his planet. After so long, they had a great success, transporting multiple heroes from other galaxies completely. Unfortunately, they were drained of their strength. So, they have to train again now, to finally seal the gate for good. The people who sign up are the heroes who were transported there, if anybody else wants to sign up, go ahead, it'll be really easy to include you into the stories with this.
On player made spells, you won't be able to start using them for a while, I'll use that NPC to explain them to you. The basic idea is, you were able to use them before you were transported here, they'll be unlocked by a special NPC later in the game.
About Battle.
When battle between two players happens, those two players will PM me with their tactics for a single round, I'll compare tactics and post their fight (one round at a time). This continues until one is slain or the other gives up. If somebody wants to stop them fighting or join in, send me your tactics and what you want to say if you're stopping them from fighting. Here's a quick example:
| QUOTE |
(Player 1) You will die for siding with them!
(Player 2) I'll accept your challenge!
(Boredom) Player 1 and Player 2 enter into combat.
PM Me with your tactics!
(Player 1 PM to Boredom) I'm going to try and stay in a crouching position and roll to the side only blocking if I have to. If I get too hurt I'll run.
(Player 2 PM to Boredom) I'll try to charge and overwhelm him, if I get too hurt I want to keep fighting until I die.
(Boredom) Player 1 goes down into a crouch while Player 2 charges towards him. The crouching man rolls to the side as his attacker goes running by him still in the charge, he takes this oppurtunity to strike out at Player 2 with his sword. Player 2 gets a nasty cut on his back and is sent staggering forward.
Player 2 takes 11 damage! PM me with next round tactics!
(Player 1 PM to Boredom) I charge towards him while he's staggering, attempting to finish him off in one strike.
(Player 2 PM to Boredom) I run forward a bit further then attempt to turn around and go into a defensive position.
(Boredom) Player 2 runs forward further and Player 1 charges at him, he is able to go into a defensive position before the charging warrior gets to Player 2 and even manages to score a minor hit on Player 1's stomach with his axe.
Player 1 loses 7 hitpoints PM me with your actions for the next round!
(Player 1 PM to Boredom) I go back into a defensive position.
(Player 2 PM to Boredom) I use my ghost image scroll and attempt to hit him with a fatal blow.
(Boredom) Player 1 goes back down into a crouching defensive position, but then Player 2 pulls a scroll out of his belt and uses it creating 3 images of him! They circle around Player 1. He doesn't know which one to defend against, then an axe comes slicing down into his spine, causing him to fall limp. Player 2 wipes his axe off on Player 1's shirt, then decides what loot he wants to keep. Player 1 wakes up in the church, the priest informs him that he had been revived recently, but they were unable to get his equipment.
I will be PMing Player 2 with a list of the loot he can take from Player 1, PM me back with the list! |
(also note that the battles are based on stats)
Monster and NPC battles are based on the same thing, except I control the monsters/NPCs. This brings me to something else, you can not be killed permanently unless you're out of a kingdom with a priest that trusts you. You can do quests for the priests to convince them to revive you after death. If you do die in a place where a priest won't revive you, you will have to make a new character. You'll lose everything.
I will finish this post in a bit, I'm bored out of my mind right this second.
bjuhn - October 5, 2004 08:50 AM (GMT)
so far it sounds right to me. wich stats do you intend to use?
Firedragongurl - October 5, 2004 08:17 PM (GMT)
BOREDOM! you're too organized! XP I don't really like the battle system too much... i think that it would take too long... othwer wise it sounds good.
Boredom - October 6, 2004 07:16 PM (GMT)
Alright, alright, I'll change the things for tactics in player battle. Instead, you'll send me your strategy for 10 rounds, mostly using "Charge and attack", or "Cast spell", this will keep the battle phase shorter. Against monsters we'll do it the same way we did in the Guardians of Shiroto, with a few differences. All players and the monster/NPC will attack in pre-determined turns (based on speed), then I do damage calculations for that round.
And stats are looking something like this right now
-Fighting Skills
--Offensive
---Sword
---Axe
---Club
---Martial Arts
---Distance
--Defensive
---Shielding
---Martial Arts
--Magical
---Overall
---Other
---Holy
---Dark
---Fire
---Ice
---Thunder
---Earth
---Summoning
-World Skills
--Charisma
--Strength
--Intelligence
Sword, Axe, Club (Mace), and Martial Arts skill level will dictate how good you are with those weapons, these skills' levels (and the enemies' shielding/tactics along with your tactics) will decide how much damage you do against the enemy. Obviously you must have one of those weapons equipped to be using those skills, equipping an axe when you have 300 sword skills won't help. Note that breaking an enemies' shielding level will not mean you've damaged them, if their armor is still superior to your weapon you may not damage them. However, it takes 2 turns for them to be able to use their shield to block again, so you might be able to get in some damage before they're ready to defend again. Distance weaponry follows this same rule except you should be able to stay out of their range.
Shielding and Martial Arts (defensive) skill dictate if you're going to be able to block an enemy or not, if their attack is better than your defense, then it gets through. If it gets through your armor after that, damage calculation is done (which is based on a
O-D=? and whatever gets through the first time is how much damage you take).
Magic is pretty easy to relate to, Overall is how good you are at magic "overall", the elements and "other" that follow are how good you are at those elements and curses. Summoning dictates how strong the creatures you summon can be. I.e. a person who's only got 10 in summoning can only summon a rat, whereas somebody with 15 in summoning can summon a fire devil. This goes up as you use it (all of the skills)
Finally, "World skills" show what tasks you can do for guildmasters and other people with quests. For instance, a blacksmith guild will want you to do something based on strength, a mage shop might have you do something based on intelligence. Charisma helps with shopkeepers, the reclusive ones will trust you as your charisma gets higher (this is done through doing quests, buying certain objects, and things like that). This skill doesn't become useful until you leave the initial town and find your way to the second/third kingdom.
Firedragongurl - October 6, 2004 07:39 PM (GMT)
i guess that works. wow boredom... you went all out to plan an RPG... XD I love ya for it.
Boredom - October 6, 2004 10:58 PM (GMT)
I almost forgot, world skills will include 'Swiftness' which will dictate your turns.
Edited about 3 hours later.
Alright, now all I need is the character signup sheets.
Name:
Age:
Race* (This can be from any book or webcomic, try not to go too comical on me here though. (When I say any, I mean any, such as scropions from Fire's comic Era) I do ask for some backgrounds on the race, some pictures, etc.):
Hair Color:
Eye Color:
Hairstyle:
Primary Skill (From the list of skills, this will dictate your starting skills):
Secondary Skill (Same as above):
Note: Your starting clothing will be essentially undergarments, a plain tunic and a plain pair of pants.
*Note:There are some races I'm familiar with already, these include Dwarf, Gnome, Night Elf, Elf, Dark Elf, Undead, Orc, Goblin, and a few others I can't think of at this moment.
You all have one week to sign up before I start the game, afterwards you're still welcome to sign up, you just won't be in on the opening and will be behind on stats. :P

It's the wrong link, but since I already know about the page it didn't take that much clicking. >>
Here'd be your skills then

Try to keep them saved somewhere to be absolutely certain I don't mess up somehow.
Update to the RPG: Some of the NPCs will teach you new skills, among these will be stuff like smithing, mining, just extra ways for you to make money outside of quests.
Another update: I'm going to be starting this in 3 more days, get signed up bjuhn and neko :P
Firedragongurl - October 8, 2004 08:19 PM (GMT)
Sign up Mika-chan! if you're out there... even Shannon too! that'd be so cool~

he's is what in d&d would be described as a monk, kicks ass without weapons, able to do simple magic like self-heal by meditating and such
allignment: lawfull good
Boredom - October 9, 2004 03:14 AM (GMT)
Yeh, I realize what monks do. I've gotta note something though, you're not limited to one class, and you can use all class spells you learn while using another class at any time, even while training in another class.. Your primary and secondary skills define what you can do when you first start out in the RPG. Secondary (since you based your skills on a monk) will be considered holy, as that's essentially healing spells and what you said.

UPDATE: 1 day left people! Sign up if you want to be in the beginning! Although you're welcome to sign up anywhere throughout the game it's self, you'll just be behind on skills. Also note, the rules aren't that hard to remember, give them a shot and a chance!
Firedragongurl - October 15, 2004 04:18 PM (GMT)
Boredom.... it's now been three days... -_-
bjuhn - October 15, 2004 06:41 PM (GMT)
maybe the flow of time is different for boredom......................
Firedragongurl - October 15, 2004 08:35 PM (GMT)
Boredom - October 15, 2004 10:32 PM (GMT)
Sorry, that was an attempt to get more people to sign up before it started. Oh well, I'll start it in a minute when I can think up the surroundings. xD
Firedragongurl - October 18, 2004 04:39 PM (GMT)
bjuhn - October 18, 2004 09:54 PM (GMT)
that was another 3 days <_<
Firedragongurl - October 18, 2004 10:52 PM (GMT)
Boredom - October 18, 2004 11:36 PM (GMT)
Meh, I should have it done before tomorrow. I can't come up with names for crap.
Okay, here's the progress so far
Names of towns and stuff, done.
Starting post, 50% (PH34R TEH WRITERS BLOCK! xD)
Other stuff, improvised.
So, once I get the start thought out, it'll be rp time.
bjuhn - October 21, 2004 02:34 PM (GMT)
thinking? that's dangerous, you know. You'll get cancer......
Firedragongurl - October 21, 2004 06:37 PM (GMT)
Not just any cancer either. the kind of cancer that kills you. yup. *crosses arms over chest and nods* by the way, on the rpg how would have us play? with short paragraphs or where the actions are in these * things? I forget what both types are called...
bjuhn - October 21, 2004 11:53 PM (GMT)
don't worry, you know boredom. If we do it a way he didn't intend it, he'll just edit all our posts together and ban us for 15 years, so no need to worry :P
Boredom - October 22, 2004 01:51 AM (GMT)
Actually, as stated before, that was an accident and one I fixed I might add. Anyway, the RPG will be played out in
"So and so reaches for his sword, yells "YOU DIE," amd charges forward." style.
Firedragongurl - October 23, 2004 03:36 AM (GMT)
ah yes. The hard and creative format. heh oh yeah and about the flow of time being different for boredom, i just thought that's true cause you notice how time drags when you're bored?

(Hope thats ok Boredom!^_^
Also..have you guys missed me or something? Somehow my name got pulled in to the join the rpg bit Fire had said ok i'm going to bed now ><...night!)
Firedragongurl - October 23, 2004 06:01 AM (GMT)
LIKE HELL I MISSED YOU!!!!!!!!!! *glomp*
Boredom - October 23, 2004 07:56 AM (GMT)
OMGGG, SHE LIVES! You do need to specify a type of magic though. Another thing, when I said "plain" I meant, something that isn't armor and won't effect ANY skills. The point is that when the transportation thing happened all armor lost any defensive properties and/or magical properties. Weaponry and all other stuff just vanished.
Your stats (These'll be updated when you choose a type of magic)
