Title: TCG! TCG! TCG!

Imaku - June 8, 2003 01:54 AM (GMT)
I've seen a LOT of Pokemon websites out there, and it seems that most of them either specialize in the tcg or the video games. It's obvious which one Kyogre's Lair specializes in...

My point? Okay, well, I know you're already popular and all, what with so many hits, but for the good of the site AND the general public, don't you think it'd be better if you had a more extensive tcg section? I mean, I can honestly claim that the tcg has just as much, if not more, strategy than the video games.

There's talk of the tcg in the forums. I think everyone, on some level, is interested in the tcg. Think of all the good expanding will do! Card reviews, deck listings, strategy articles, fan-made cards, and, dare I say it, AN OFFICIAL SITE TOURNAMENT!

Oh, the thought of it makes me salivate... A quick skim through the Pokemon misc. section has given me the notion that most people here gave up the tcg because they didn't have any worthy opponents or didn't have the cards they wanted/needed. Well, I know of a program that can provide ONLINE POKEMON TCG MATCHES. Anyone interested?

I'm interested. I only found the GSBot for GSC. My biggest problem with the TCG right now is that I'm behind. I don't have any cards from the recent expansions. I'd agree that this forum could use a TCG section alongside the Games section. That's one vote. My deck has gathered dust for too long....

Imaku - June 8, 2003 03:40 AM (GMT)
GSbot? Personally, I prefer NetBattle... oh! Back to tcg.

*clears throat*

The program is called Apprentice and was originally made to play Magic: the Gathering. However, several patches were made to adapt the program for other TCGs, including Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. You'll have to download both the original Apprentice program AND the Pokemon patch, then combine them (that's going to be tricky for some, but I'll guide anyone who needs help). There's also an optional background download provided by Pojo.com , as the original Apprentice background is Magic-related.

As for the program itself, it's pretty easy to master. There's a built-in deck editor with every card from Base Set to Expedition, including promo's and japanese ones. ALL THIS IS FREE, so there's absolutely NO restrictions to what you can use! (that is unless I, and whoever else is appointed to head this tournament, set up rules and restrictions) Since most of you are a weeny bit out of date, I'm thinking the tournament will be held in Unlimited Format.

I'd provide the URLs now, except I kinda lost them while re-decorating my website. I'll have to hunt them down later. All for the best really. I still need more opinion on this, especially from the admin/webmaster.

I would love to do that, however there are some problems. Like Zephyrion, I've not touched the TCG since the day of Rockte expansion. Seeing this, I need to find a staff that could take charge of the section. It's something to be considered in the future, if we could get hold of a dedicated staff with adequate knowledge on the subject.

Online TCG tournaments would be good tough. You can always organise it in the forum.

Rocket Expansion? Whoa, I didn't even get that far! Hmm.... I won't mind staffing the TCG tournaments. I'll just need to do a little research to catch up. I also feel that Imaku here could host the TCG aspect of the game well. Perhaps he should become a staff member?

Imaku - June 8, 2003 08:28 PM (GMT)
Aw, nuts, you caught on to my secret motive! Well, no matter. Here are the URLs for the downloads. I suggest you download Apprentice from its original site (DragonStudios), but the e-league links are good, too.

http://www.dragonstudios.com/apprentice/
http://www.e-league.com/mirrors.php

The Pokemon patch I have has been taken off the net from its original page, so I made an Internet search and came out with this site:

http://www.etcg.de/

It's in German, but I think you can figure out where to download the Pokemon patch. If not, I'll email my zip file to you containing my version of the patch.

Now for the optional Pokemon theme/background:

http://www.pojo.com/League/Themes/pokemon.thm

... and you can find some very basic instructions here:

http://www.pojo.com/league/apprentice.html

My advice is to download Apprentice, get all of it ready, and play around with it a bit. I think it'd be a while to gather enough players and set up a certain time, a set of rules, and such things necessary for a tournament.

Zephyrion - June 8, 2003 08:58 PM (GMT)
I've got it. I think..... It seems like it plays by the honour system. Can we have observers?

http://www.etcg.de/ has the Aprentice with Pokémon already installed in it.

Yes, I know. There seems to be many ways to cheat on Apprentice, so y'all be good, y'hear?

And no, other people can't watch a match. However, if anyone tries to cheat, just copy-paste the little history of the match and send it to whoever's in charge. It should say exactly what happened and at what time.

As for the www.etcg.de thing, that's great. It took me days to figure out where and how to merge the Pokemon patch with the Apprentice program. Now you guys won't have to kick your computer repeatedly in frustration, like I did.

There's the Aprentice program with the Pokémon Patch already installed.

Just some tips for gameplay...

- to play something facedown, hold the SHIFT button and drag it from your hand or the deck and place it on the playing field.

- to shuffle your deck, it's costumary just to press CTRL + S three times

- there are certain "phases" inside the program. just ignore this, but please press the "end turn" button after announcing your attack and doing all the stuff

- the coin flip in the program can be rigged (no, I'm not gonna tell you how). Just roll a die. Even is heads, odd is tails.

I'm going to keep editing this post for more things I should mention.

Hey, it happens. But first's first: are you interested in playing the pokemon tcg online? We're talking of hosting an official Kyogre's Lair tournament, using this program called Apprentice. But so far, it seems Zephyrion, Strider, and I are the only potential participants...

Yami Yugi - June 18, 2003 09:36 PM (GMT)
i join too but i need to download apprentice

Imaku - June 18, 2003 10:29 PM (GMT)
Well, just use the link in Zephyrion's post (it has the program with the patch already installed). However, I think Kyogre's Lair is going to put off a TCG tournament for later. The GSBot tournament is going along quite nicely, and 2 tourneys at the same time might be too hectic.

Anyone can still play me with Apprentice, though. Just log on to AIM; my sn is Imakuni3564.

Kyogre1260 - July 11, 2003 06:27 PM (GMT)
I'm game for an online TCG tournament. Just need to download the thing.

Zephyrion - July 11, 2003 08:13 PM (GMT)
Let's forget the tournaments for now. We don't have enough battles that we can oranize a Tourney with. Let's just get playing regularly.

Is everyone on the North American Continent? Specifically, how many of you are on the eastern/right/->> side of North America? If we're all within 1-2 hours of each other, then we can plan to play during the afternoons. If everyone joins in the afternoons, we can host a Tournament!

I'm in the same time zone as Toronto. (GMT -5)

Imaku - July 21, 2003 06:53 PM (GMT)
I'm on the west coast, which is about 3 hours earlier than you eastern people. However, I'm not so worried about the time as I am about the date. I doubt there's a day where ALL participants of this... thing... can come online.

valentinolaney - August 2, 2003 12:49 AM (GMT)
How about having a website that will tell you everything there is to know about the video and trading card games.

natthecat3000 - October 5, 2003 12:18 AM (GMT)
