A/N: I just really wanted to write this, not sure why. I don't much like the title, but I couldn't think of anything better.

Bombalurina reclined atop the trunk of the old car, and all around her toms were gathered, sitting beside her, getting as close as they could to the scarlet beauty.

“Beautiful day, isn’t it, Bombalurina?” One asked with a grin as he looked at her hopefully. Whoever was able to make conversation with her was the envy of the group for that moment.

Bombalurina wasn’t sure who spoke now, nor did it matter to her. “Sure is, handsome,” she replied, not even so much as looking up at him as she responded.

“Are you hungry, Bomby?” Another asked quickly. “I could go catch you a mouse.”

“No thanks,” she said with a soft sigh: as if she needed the extra calories.

“Are you doing anything tonight, Bombalurina?” Asked one particularly brave tom, eliciting some murmurs and jeers from the assembled group. He chewed on his bottom lip nervously as he awaited a response.

“I won’t know until I’m doing it,” she said with a slight smile: that would be enough to let him down without completely breaking his puny little heart.

On and on the afternoon went in this manner, the ruby-furred feline bathed in sunlight and unrequited love. Sure, she wasn’t the smartest queen in the tribe, or the best singer or dancer. But she was the prettiest, and the toms loved her. They loved her more than their mates, more than their mothers, more than life itself.

In their eyes, she wasn’t just a queen. She was the queen.
