She was a discarded puppet, gilded edges chipped and faded, laying in a crumpled heap in the darkness.
She lay unmoving for what felt like an eternity, shunned by the moon and surrounded only by unending blackness. There, amid the sweet nothingness, she would endure her punishment.
Empty glass eyes staring unblinkingly ahead, she thought of the days when she had worn the mask of happiness. Perhaps things had really been good then, or maybe she had only been deluding herself. Maybe there had been an undercurrent of malice all along.
Her happiness was made of glass, and shattered so easily... There was nothing left now, only fragmented shards that cut her open as she clung to them.
She lay still... How long would it be until she was forgiven?
