Title: Plots!

Aural Vampire - July 3, 2008 12:09 AM (GMT)
What's your favorite kind of story to read or write? Do you prefer long, intricate tales, or shorter pieces? And what kind of genre?

XD Come on guys, let's keep this place moving!

So I'll start off:

I like shorter pieces, in terms of plot and overall length. I just don't have time to read 20,000 word stories all the time, so I like plots that are a little simpler, just focusing on one event or feeling. Then again, when I find really amazing "epics", I love those too.

In terms of genre, I like pretty much everything. XD

How about everyone else?

Since no one else is answering, I guess I will. XD

I love reading very, very long stories--100,000 words and up is fine with me, as long as it's written well. I like a story that'll take me some time to read it. Plus, if it's incomplete, then it shows that the author's fairly committed to it, and chances are it won't be abandoned. Of course, this all depends on the quality of writing--you've really got to love a writer's style if you're going to make it all the way through a story as long as that. But little ficlets are fun to read, too, especially since a lot of amazing authors write stunning one-shots and drabbles, and they're a lot more fun to write, too (since you don't have to be concerned with following a plot through multiple chapters).

For genres, I like reading and writing humor best, and when I can find it, I love reading angst. The only genre I really don't like is parody, for some reason.

I like most things. I have a few things I'll avoid, particularly the Jellicle High fics. I like humour and I like dark stuff too. I'm prone to writing darker themes myself. I'm less keen on romance, and in my own writing if it's included at all - it's as a side-story. I can't focus a plot on a couple for some reason. I'll read well written ones, but I'm not a fan. I particularly dislike PWP. If it has a plot, great, if not it seems pointless.

In general, I like original and unusual ideas. Reading the same plot over and over again in slightly different ways bores me. I try to write like that as well - I wrote a fanfic a good while ago about Alonzo's evolution/devolution into a serial killer - It's called The Sickness and if anyone is excited to read it I can direct them to where they can find it. I've now got four versions of that Alonzo, one of which will be featuring in my newest big project. I also intend to eventually rewrite the Sickness.

I like twisting things.

Twisted things are awesome. ;_; It makes me sad that I haven't been able to write anything on that kind of theme since fester love.

I particularly enjoy reading angst/romance. I love that combination of genres! I've always been big on romance, and since I've started with the fanfic, have gotten into angst. I know I shouldn't read that kind of stuff, because I tend to read really sad fics, get lost in the sadness, not be able to stop thinking about it, and cry a lot. I get quite depressed (only for like and hour though. I get over it pretty quickly! :) Not the kind of suicidal depressed, the acting unusually quiet and not really wanting to talk to people depressed. But, I still love reading them! And won't stop anytime soon! ^_^

I think angst is good in moderation. Too much and it becomes really annoying, almost whiny.

I tend to dislike angst, and prefer straight-up drama (no clue why people keep applauding my skill at writing angst). Though lately I've developed a new appreciation for darkfic. ^_^

Yeah, I don't even know why it holds appeal to me! I'm generally a very bubbly, happy person (so much so, it can tend to get on peoples nerves. seriously.)! And yet, I just can't get enough of the depressing stuff. Can't write it, though. I tend to move things along too quickly.

It might interest you because it's so different from how you act.

XD I'm the opposite - it appeals to me because I'm a very melancholy/angsty person much of the time, so I can relate to it somewhat.
