Title: Another day, another project

Scottie_theNerd - December 15, 2005 05:07 PM (GMT)
I decided to attempt to get something published for once in my life, so I started a fictional story a few days ago. I just completed the first chapter, which you can view here:

Or alternative you can download the .doc version here:

It's a war story, so it might not suit your tastes, but some might interested. Feedback appreciated.

Wow...I really like it! I've always been interesting in war stories, and this one is very interesting! Is it based on any specific battle/war? Keep going at it!

Scottie_theNerd - December 16, 2005 11:17 AM (GMT)
This story isn't based on any particular battle or war, although it is set in the current era. It's not so evident now, but I intend to make the time period clearer later on.

tennisrocks - December 16, 2005 03:32 PM (GMT)
Oh I see! What country are they from? I would love to keep reading it if I may! :)

Scottie_theNerd - December 24, 2005 07:44 AM (GMT)
The country is unspecified, and could be completely fictional as far as anyone is concerned.

It's a similar concept to John Marsden's Tomorrow series, where the enemy is never identified. Viridian Sunset doesn't mention the identity of the enemy nor does it specify any allied nation. Some of the equipment used later on implies that the United States is involved, but again it's an ambigious link that can be applied to any NATO country.

One thing is for certain: it is a conventional war, not a war on terrorism.

I'll post the second chapter when I finish if you're interested.

I'd love to read it! thanks!

Chapter II (and a bit of Chapter III) up.

tennisrocks - January 4, 2006 04:57 AM (GMT)
Wow..I really don't know why I find it soo interesting, but I think that I had it in a printed book form, I wouldn't be able to put it down! It's written really well, and I really enjoyed it :D

Well..I just don't know what to say anymore! I still love it! I can't imagine why he won't talk about his family, but I"m sure you'll explain sometime ;) Over all, very good job! :D

Chapter 4 done.

I think this is the most emotional scene yet.

I kept seeing you on here, just wondering when on earth you were going to post the next chapter :P unfortunately I'll have to read it later..have to go eat now!

Edit: I just read it...that was so sad! I feel bad for Tom too -_- but Zipper? *sniff* okay, I'm done... :) still really good, still love it! to be honest, the only thing I don't really like is the language, but I can understand how that fits in with the military..don't get me wrong by that :)

Scottie_theNerd - February 4, 2006 05:14 AM (GMT)
As much as I dislike the language, it would be very unrealistic if a guy didn't swear if he got shot at. =)

tennisrocks - February 4, 2006 04:10 PM (GMT)
And also, the majority of people tend to use language, and if you're with them everyday for who knows how long, you'd tend to use it to.

Chapter Five is done. Sorry about uploading individual chapters, but I wasn't intending on updating it publicly, so it's my raw work in progress. Same link as above.

Scottie_theNerd - February 17, 2006 06:22 PM (GMT)
And Chapter Six is now complete right behind it.

tennisrocks - February 17, 2006 07:56 PM (GMT)
I just read the last two chapters...I have nothing new to say about it :D but I definitely still like it!

Scottie_theNerd - February 28, 2006 03:56 PM (GMT)
Chapter 7 is done.

Other than the chapter, I've gone back to change several details. I replaced the two-chopper insertion at the beginning with a platoon insertion to make it sound more realistic (who sends a chopper worth tens of millions of dollars to carry just four people?)

I've also changed one of the character's names for miscellaneous reasons. Was a bit tedious going through and replacing everything.

Enjoy.

Ash too? how sad...I have no clue what Tom's going to do next...*sigh* poor kid...who's name did you change? it kinda confused me :)
